Translation note

The Arameans speak as those who believe that each god rules only over one territory. The Hebrew word is “elohim,” which they say of the Elohim of Israel; that is why in their mouth it is translated “their gods” (the verb does not decide between singular and plural). Verse 28 answers this.

The context

22The prophet came near to the king of Israel and said to him, “Go, strengthen yourself, and know and see what you must do, for at the turn of the year the king of Aram will come up against you.”
