For some time now,גַּם תְּמוֹל גַּם שִׁלְשׁוֹםevenגַּםwhenבִּSaulשָׁאוּלwasהְיוֹתking,מֶלֶךְyouאַתָּהwerethe one who led outהַמּוֹצִיאand brought inוְהַמֵּבִיאIsrael;יִשְׂרָאֵלand YHWHוַ יְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָsaidיֹּאמֶרto you,לְךָ‘Youאַתָּהwill shepherdתִרְעֶהmy people,עַמִּיIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלand youוְאַתָּהwill beתִּהְיֶהleaderנָגִידoverעַלmy peopleעַמִּיIsrael.’”יִשְׂרָאֵל

And Davidוַ דָּוִידand allוְכָלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלwentיֵּלֶךְtoJerusalem,יְרוּשָׁלִַםthat isהִיאJebus;יְבוּסand there wasוְשָׁםthe Jebusite,הַיְבוּסִיthe inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵיof the land.הָאָרֶץ
The inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵיof Jebusיְבוּסsaidוַיֹּאמְרוּto David,לְדָוִיד“You will notלֹאcome inתָבוֹאhere.”הֵנָּהBut Davidוַ דָּוִידcapturedיִּלְכֹּדthe strongholdמְצֻדַתof Zion;צִיּוֹןthat isהִיאthe cityעִירof David.דָּוִיד
Davidדָּוִידsaid,וַיֹּאמֶר“Whoeverכָּלstrikesמַכֵּהthe Jebusiteיְבוּסִיfirstבָּרִאשׁוֹנָהwill beיִהְיֶהheadלְרֹאשׁand commander.”וּלְשָׂרAnd Joabוַ יוֹאָבsonבֶּןof Zeruiahצְרוּיָהwent upיַּעַלfirst,בָּרִאשׁוֹנָהand he becameוַיְהִיhead.לְרֹאשׁ
Davidדָּוִידlivedוַיֵּשֶׁבin the stronghold;בַּמְצָדthereforeעַל כֵּןthey calledקָרְאוּitלוֹthe cityעִירof David.דָּוִיד
He builtוַיִּבֶןthe cityהָעִירall around,מִסָּבִיבfromמִןthe Milloהַמִּלּוֹאtoוְעַדthe surrounding area;הַסָּבִיבand Joabוְיוֹאָבrevivedיְחַיֶּהthe restשְׁאָרof the city.הָעִיר
Davidדָּוִידkept growingוַיֵּלֶךְ הָלוֹךְgreater,וְגָדוֹלand YHWH Tsevaotוַיהוָה צְבָאוֹתwaswith him.עִמּוֹ
Now these areוְאֵלֶּהthe headsרָאשֵׁיof the mighty menהַגִּבּוֹרִיםwhomאֲשֶׁרDavid had,לְדָוִידwho showed themselves strongהַמִּתְחַזְּקִיםwith himעִמּוֹin his kingdom,בְמַלְכוּתוֹtogether withעִםallכָּלIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלto make him king,לְהַמְלִיכוֹaccording to the wordכִּדְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהconcerningעַלIsrael.יִשְׂרָאֵל
And this isוְאֵלֶּהthe numberמִסְפַּרof the mighty menהַגִּבֹּרִיםwhomאֲשֶׁרDavid had:לְדָוִידJashobeamיָשָׁבְעָםsonבֶּןof Hachmoni,חַכְמוֹנִיheadרֹאשׁof the captains;הַשָּׁלִישִׁיםheהוּאbrandishedעוֹרֵרhis spearחֲנִיתוֹagainstעַלthreeשְׁלֹשׁhundredמֵאוֹתslainחָלָלat oneבְּ אֶחָתtime.פַעַם
After himוְאַחֲרָיוwasEleazarאֶלְעָזָרsonבֶּןof Dodoדּוֹדוֹthe Ahohite;הָאֲחוֹחִיhe wasהוּאamong the threeבִּשְׁלוֹשָׁהmighty men.הַגִּבֹּרִים
HeהוּאwasהָיָהwithעִםDavidדָּוִידat Pas-dammim,בַּפַּס דַּמִּיםand the Philistinesוְהַפְּלִשְׁתִּיםhad gatheredנֶאֱסְפוּthereשָׁםfor battle;לַמִּלְחָמָהand there wasוַתְּהִיa plotחֶלְקַתof the fieldהַשָּׂדֶהfullמְלֵאָהof barley,שְׂעוֹרִיםand the peopleוְהָעָםfledנָסוּfrom beforeמִפְּנֵיthe Philistines.פְלִשְׁתִּים
But they took their standוַיִּתְיַצְּבוּin the middleבְתוֹךְof the plotהַחֶלְקָהand delivered it,וַיַּצִּילוּהָand they struckוַיַּכּוּthe Philistines;פְּלִשְׁתִּיםand YHWHוַ יְהוָהsaved themיּוֹשַׁעwith a greatגְדוֹלָהsalvation.תְּשׁוּעָה
Threeשְׁלוֹשָׁהofמִןthe thirtyהַשְּׁלוֹשִׁיםchief menרֹאשׁwent downוַיֵּרְדוּtoעַלthe rock,הַצֻּרtoאֶלDavid,דָּוִידtoאֶלthe caveמְעָרַתof Adullam,עֲדֻלָּםwhile the campוּמַחֲנֵהof the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּיםwas campedחֹנָהin the Valleyבְּעֵמֶקof Rephaim.רְפָאִים

The threeהַשְּׁלֹשָׁהbroke throughוַיִּבְקְעוּthe campבְּמַחֲנֵהof the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּיםand drewוַיִּשְׁאֲבוּwaterמַיִםfrom the wellמִבּוֹרof Bethlehemבֵּית לֶחֶםthatאֲשֶׁרisby the gate,בַּשַּׁעַרand they carried itוַיִּשְׂאוּand brought itוַיָּבִאוּtoאֶלDavid;דָּוִידbut Davidוְ דָוִידwas not willingלֹא אָבָהto drink it,לִשְׁתּוֹתָםand he poured it out as a libationוַיְנַסֵּךְ אֹתָםto YHWH.לַיהוָה
And he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Far be itחָלִילָהfrom me,לִּיby my Elohim,מֵאֱלֹהַיto doמֵעֲשׂוֹתthis!זֹאתShall I drinkהֲ אֶשְׁתֶּהthe bloodדַםof theseהָאֵלֶּהmenהָאֲנָשִׁיםat the risk of their lives?בְנַפְשׁוֹתָםForכִּיat the risk of their livesבְנַפְשׁוֹתָםthey brought it.”הֱבִיאוּםAnd he was not willingוְלֹא אָבָהto drink it.לִשְׁתּוֹתָםThese thingsאֵלֶּהthe threeשְׁלֹשֶׁת הַmighty menגִּבּוֹרִיםdid.עָשׂוּ
As for Abishai,וְאַבְשַׁיthe brotherאֲחִיof Joab,יוֹאָבheהוּאwasהָיָהheadרֹאשׁof the three;הַשְּׁלוֹשָׁהand heוְהוּאbrandishedעוֹרֵרhis spearחֲנִיתוֹagainstעַלthreeשְׁלֹשׁhundredמֵאוֹתslain,חָלָלand he hadוְלוֹa nameשֵׁםamong the three.בַּשְּׁלוֹשָׁה
Ofמִןthe three,הַשְּׁלוֹשָׁהhe was more honoredנִכְבָּדthan the other two,בַשְּׁנַיִםand he becameוַיְהִיtheirלָהֶםcommander;לְשָׂרbutוְhe did notלֹאattainבָאtoעַדthe three.הַשְּׁלוֹשָׁה
