And it happened,וַיְהִיwhen Solomonכְּ שְׁלֹמֹהhad finishedכַלּוֹתbuildingלִבְנוֹתthe houseאֶת בֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהand the houseוְאֶת בֵּיתof the kingהַמֶּלֶךְand allוְאֵת כָּלthe desireחֵשֶׁקof Solomonשְׁלֹמֹהthatאֲשֶׁרhe was pleasedחָפֵץto do,לַעֲשׂוֹת
that YHWHוַ יְהוָהappearedיֵּרָאtoאֶלSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהa second time,שֵׁנִיתasכַּאֲשֶׁרhe had appearedנִרְאָהto himאֵלָיוat Gibeon.בְּגִבְעוֹן
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרto him,אֵלָיו“I have heardשָׁמַעְתִּיyour prayerאֶת תְּפִלָּתְךָand your supplicationוְאֶת תְּחִנָּתְךָwith whichאֲשֶׁרyou made supplicationהִתְחַנַּנְתָּהbefore me;לְפָנַיI have consecratedהִקְדַּשְׁתִּיthisהַזֶּהhouseאֶת הַבַּיִתthatאֲשֶׁרyou have built,בָּנִתָהto putלָשׂוּםmy nameשְׁמִיthereשָׁםforever;עַד עוֹלָםand my eyesוְ עֵינַיand my heartוְלִבִּיwill beהָיוּthereשָׁםallכָּלthe days.הַיָּמִים
And you,וְאַתָּהifאִםyou walkתֵּלֵךְbefore meלְפָנַיasכַּאֲשֶׁרDavidדָּוִדyour fatherאָבִיךָwalked,הָלַךְin integrityבְּתָםof heartלֵבָבand in uprightness,וּבְיֹשֶׁרdoingלַעֲשׂוֹתaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרI have commanded you,צִוִּיתִיךָand keepתִּשְׁמֹרmy statutesחֻקַּיand my rules,וּמִשְׁפָּטַי
then I will establishוַהֲקִמֹתִיthe throneאֶת כִּסֵּאof your kingdomמַמְלַכְתְּךָoverעַלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלforever,לְעֹלָםasכַּאֲשֶׁרI spokeדִּבַּרְתִּיconcerningעַלDavidדָּוִדyour father,אָבִיךָsaying,לֵאמֹר‘There shall notלֹאbe cut offיִכָּרֵתfor youלְךָa manאִישׁfromמֵעַלthe throneכִּסֵּאof Israel.’יִשְׂרָאֵל
But ifאִםyouאַתֶּםand your sonsוּבְנֵיכֶםindeed turn backשׁוֹב תְּשֻׁבוּןfrom following meמֵאַחֲרַיand do notוְלֹאkeepתִשְׁמְרוּmy commandments,מִצְוֺתַיmy statutes,חֻקֹּתַיthatאֲשֶׁרI have setנָתַתִּיbefore you,לִפְנֵיכֶםand goוַהֲלַכְתֶּםand serveוַעֲבַדְתֶּםotherאֲחֵרִיםgodsאֱלֹהִיםand bow downוְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתֶםto them,לָהֶם
then I will cut offוְהִכְרַתִּיIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלfromמֵעַלthe faceפְּנֵיof the landהָאֲדָמָהthatאֲשֶׁרI have givenנָתַתִּיthem;לָהֶםand the houseוְאֶת הַבַּיִתthatאֲשֶׁרI have consecratedהִקְדַּשְׁתִּיfor my nameלִשְׁמִיI will cast outאֲשַׁלַּחfrom before my face;מֵעַל פָּנָיand Israelוְ יִשְׂרָאֵלwill becomeהָיָהa bywordלְמָשָׁלand a tauntוְלִשְׁנִינָהamong allבְּכָלthe peoples.הָעַמִּים
And thisוְ הַזֶּהhouseהַבַּיִתwill beיִהְיֶהhigh;עֶלְיוֹןeveryoneכָּלwho passesעֹבֵרby itעָלָיוwill be appalledיִשֹּׁםand will hiss,וְשָׁרָקand they will say,וְאָמְרוּ‘Whyעַל מֶהhas YHWHיְהוָהdoneעָשָׂהthusכָּכָהto thisהַזֹּאתlandלָאָרֶץand to thisוְלַ הַזֶּהhouse?’בַּיִת
And they will say,וְאָמְרוּ‘Becauseעַל אֲשֶׁרthey abandonedעָזְבוּYHWHאֶת יְהוָהtheir Elohim,אֱלֹהֵיהֶםwhoאֲשֶׁרbroughtהוֹצִיאtheir fathersאֶת אֲבֹתָםout of the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egypt,מִצְרַיִםand they held fastוַיַּחֲזִקוּto otherבֵּ אֲחֵרִיםgodsאלֹהִיםand bowed downוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּto themלָהֶםand served them;וַיַּעַבְדֻםthereforeעַל כֵּןYHWHיְהוָהhas broughtהֵבִיאon themעֲלֵיהֶםallאֵת כָּלthisהַזֹּאתevil.’”הָרָעָה
And it happened,וַיְהִיat the endמִקְצֵהof twentyעֶשְׂרִיםyears,שָׁנָהin whichאֲשֶׁרSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהhad builtבָּנָהthe twoאֶת שְׁנֵיhouses,הַבָּתִּיםthe houseאֶת בֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהand the houseוְאֶת בֵּיתof the kingהַמֶּלֶךְ
— Hiramחִירָםkingמֶלֶךְof Tyreצֹרhad suppliedנִשָּׂאSolomonאֶת שְׁלֹמֹהwith timberבַּעֲצֵיof cedarאֲרָזִיםand timberוּבַעֲצֵיof cypressבְרוֹשִׁיםand with gold,וּבַזָּהָבaccording to allלְכָלhis pleasure —חֶפְצוֹthat thenאָזKingהַמֶּלֶךְSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהgaveיִתֵּןHiramלְחִירָםtwentyעֶשְׂרִיםcitiesעִירin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Galilee.הַגָּלִיל
And Hiramוַ חִירָםcame outיֵּצֵאfrom Tyreמִצֹּרto seeלִרְאוֹתthe citiesאֶת הֶעָרִיםthatאֲשֶׁרSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהhad givenנָתַןhim,לוֹand they were notוְלֹאrightיָשְׁרוּin his eyes.בְּעֵינָיו
And he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Whatמָהare theseהָאֵלֶּהcitiesהֶעָרִיםthatאֲשֶׁרyou have givenנָתַתָּהme,לִּיmy brother?”אָחִיAnd he calledוַיִּקְרָאthemלָהֶםthe landאֶרֶץof Cabulכָּבוּלtoעַדthisהַזֶּהday.הַיּוֹם
And Hiramוַ חִירָםhad sentיִּשְׁלַחto the kingלַמֶּלֶךְa hundredמֵאָהand twentyוְעֶשְׂרִיםtalentsכִּכַּרof gold.זָהָב
And thisוְזֶהis the matterדְבַרof the forced laborהַמַּסthatאֲשֶׁרKingהַמֶּלֶךְSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהraisedהֶעֱלָהto buildלִבְנוֹתthe houseאֶת בֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהand his houseוְאֶת בֵּיתוֹand the Milloוְאֶת הַמִּלּוֹאand the wallוְאֵת חוֹמַתof Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָםand Hazorוְאֶת חָצֹרand Megiddoוְאֶת מְגִדּוֹand Gezer.וְאֶת גָּזֶר
Pharaohפַּרְעֹהkingמֶלֶךְof Egyptמִצְרַיִםhad gone upעָלָהand takenוַיִּלְכֹּדGezerאֶת גֶּזֶרand burned itוַיִּשְׂרְפָהּwith fire,בָּאֵשׁand had killedהָרָגthe Canaaniteוְאֶת הַכְּנַעֲנִיwho livedהַיֹּשֵׁבin the city,בָּעִירand had given itוַיִּתְּנָהּas a dowryשִׁלֻּחִיםto his daughter,לְבִתּוֹthe wifeאֵשֶׁתof Solomon.שְׁלֹמֹה
And Solomonוַ שְׁלֹמֹהbuiltיִּבֶןGezerאֶת גָּזֶרand LowerתַּחְתּוֹןBeth-horon,וְאֶת בֵּית חֹרֹן
and Baalathוְאֶת בַּעֲלָתand Tadmorוְאֶת תַּדְמֹרin the wilderness,בַּמִּדְבָּרin the land,בָּאָרֶץ
and allוְאֵת כָּלthe storageהַמִּסְכְּנוֹתcitiesעָרֵיthatאֲשֶׁרSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהhad,הָיוּ לִand the citiesוְאֵת עָרֵיfor chariots,הָרֶכֶבand the citiesוְאֵת עָרֵיfor horsemen,הַפָּרָשִׁיםand the desireוְאֵת חֵשֶׁקof Solomonשְׁלֹמֹהthatאֲשֶׁרhe desiredחָשַׁקto buildלִבְנוֹתin Jerusalemבִּירוּשָׁלִַםand in Lebanonוּבַלְּבָנוֹןand in allוּבְכֹלthe landאֶרֶץof his dominion.מֶמְשַׁלְתּוֹ
Allכָּלthe peopleהָעָםwho were leftהַנּוֹתָרofמִןthe Amorite,הָאֱמֹרִיthe Hittite,הַחִתִּיthe Perizzite,הַפְּרִזִּיthe Hivite,הַחִוִּיand the Jebusite,וְהַיְבוּסִיwhoאֲשֶׁרwere notלֹא הֵמָּהof the sonsמִבְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל
their sonsבְּנֵיהֶםwhoאֲשֶׁרwere leftנֹתְרוּafter themאַחֲרֵיהֶםin the land,בָּאָרֶץwhomאֲשֶׁרthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwere notלֹאableיָכְלוּto devote to destruction,לְהַחֲרִימָםSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהraised themוַיַּעֲלֵםtoלְbe subject to forced laborמַס עֹבֵדuntilעַדthisהַזֶּהday.הַיּוֹם
But of the sonsוּמִבְּנֵיof IsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהdid notלֹאmakeנָתַןa slave,עָבֶדforכִּיtheyהֵםwere the menאַנְשֵׁיof war,הַמִּלְחָמָהand his servants,וַעֲבָדָיוand his officials,וְשָׂרָיוand his captains,וְשָׁלִשָׁיוand the commandersוְשָׂרֵיof his chariotsרִכְבּוֹand of his horsemen.וּפָרָשָׁיו
Theseאֵלֶּהwere the chiefsשָׂרֵיof the prefectsהַנִּצָּבִיםwho wereאֲשֶׁרoverעַלthe workהַמְּלָאכָהfor Solomon,לִשְׁלֹמֹהfive hundredחֲמֵשׁ מֵאוֹתand fifty,חֲמִשִּׁים וַwho ruledהָרֹדִיםover the peopleבָּעָםwho didהָעֹשִׂיםthe work.בַּמְּלָאכָה
Butאַךְthe daughterבַּתof Pharaohפַּרְעֹהwent upעָלְתָהfrom the cityמֵעִירof Davidדָּוִדtoאֶלher houseבֵּיתָהּthatאֲשֶׁרSolomonhad builtבָּנָהfor her;לָהּthenאָזhe builtבָּנָהthe Millo.אֶת הַמִּלּוֹא
And Solomonוְ שְׁלֹמֹהofferedהֶעֱלָהthreeשָׁלֹשׁtimesפְּעָמִיםin the yearבַּשָּׁנָהburnt offeringsעֹלוֹתand peace offeringsוּשְׁלָמִיםonעַלthe altarהַמִּזְבֵּחַthatאֲשֶׁרhe had builtבָּנָהfor YHWH,לַיהוָהand he offered up in smokeוְהַקְטֵירwith it,אִתּוֹon that whichאֲשֶׁרwas beforeלִפְנֵיYHWH;יְהוָהand he completedוְשִׁלַּםthe house.אֶת הַבָּיִת
And Kingוָ הַמֶּלֶךְSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהmadeעָשָׂהshipsאֳנִיin Ezion-geber,בְּעֶצְיוֹן גֶּבֶרwhich isאֲשֶׁרnearאֶתEloth,אֵלוֹתonעַלthe shoreשְׂפַתof the Seaיַםof Reeds,סוּףin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Edom.אֱדוֹם
And Hiramוַ חִירָםsentיִּשְׁלַחin the shipsבָּאֳנִיhis servants,אֶת עֲבָדָיוmenאַנְשֵׁיof ships,אֳנִיּוֹתwho knewיֹדְעֵיthe sea,הַיָּםwithעִםthe servantsעַבְדֵיof Solomon.שְׁלֹמֹה
And they cameוַיָּבֹאוּto Ophirאוֹפִירָהand tookוַיִּקְחוּfrom thereמִשָּׁםgold,זָהָבfour hundredאַרְבַּע מֵאוֹתand twentyוְעֶשְׂרִיםtalents,כִּכָּרand brought itוַיָּבִאוּtoאֶלKingהַמֶּלֶךְSolomon.שְׁלֹמֹה
