When Solomonוּכְ שְׁלֹמֹהhad finishedכַלּוֹתpraying,לְהִתְפַּלֵּלthe fireוְהָאֵשׁcame downיָרְדָהfrom the heavensמֵהַשָּׁמַיִםand consumedוַתֹּאכַלthe burnt offeringהָעֹלָהand the sacrifices,וְהַזְּבָחִיםand the gloryוּכְבוֹדof YHWHיְהוָהfilledמָלֵאthe house.הַבָּיִת
The priestsוְ הַכֹּהֲנִיםcould notלֹא יָכְלוּenterלָבוֹאintoאֶלthe houseבֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהforכִּיthe gloryכְבוֹדof YHWHיְהוָהhad filledמָלֵאthe houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
Allוְכֹלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwere watchingרֹאִיםthe fireהָאֵשׁcome downבְּרֶדֶתand the gloryוּכְבוֹדof YHWHיְהוָהuponעַלthe house,הַבָּיִתand they kneltוַיִּכְרְעוּwith their facesאַפַּיִםto the groundאַרְצָהonעַלthe pavement,הָרִצְפָהand bowed downוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּand gave thanksוְהוֹדוֹתto YHWH,לַיהוָה“Forכִּיhe is good,טוֹבforכִּיhis loyal loveחַסְדּוֹis forever.”לְעוֹלָם
The kingוְהַמֶּלֶךְand allוְכָלthe peopleהָעָםwere sacrificingזֹבְחִיםsacrificesזֶבַחbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH.יְהוָה
KingהַמֶּלֶךְSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהsacrificedוַיִּזְבַּחthe sacrifice:אֶת זֶבַחtwentyעֶשְׂרִיםand twoוּשְׁנַיִםthousandאֶלֶףoxenהַבָּקָרand a hundredוְ מֵאָהand twentyוְעֶשְׂרִיםthousandאָלֶףsheep.צֹאןSo the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְand allוְכָלthe peopleהָעָםdedicatedיַּחְנְכוּthe houseבֵּיתof Elohim.הָאֱלֹהִים
The priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםwere standingעֹמְדִיםatעַלtheir posts,מִשְׁמְרוֹתָםand the Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּםwith the instrumentsבִּכְלֵיof songשִׁירof YHWHיְהוָהthatאֲשֶׁרDavidדָּוִידthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְhad madeעָשָׂהfor giving thanksלְהֹדוֹתto YHWH,לַיהוָה“Forכִּיhis loyal loveחַסְדּוֹis forever,”לְעוֹלָםwhen Davidבְּ דָּוִידpraisedהַלֵּלby their hand;בְּיָדָםand the priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםwere sounding the trumpetsמַחְצְרִיםopposite them,נֶגְדָּםand allוְכָלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלwas standing.עֹמְדִים
Solomonשְׁלֹמֹהsanctifiedוַיְקַדֵּשׁthe middleתּוֹךְof the courtהֶחָצֵרthat wasאֲשֶׁרbeforeלִפְנֵיthe houseבֵיתof YHWH,יְהוָהforכִּיthereשָׁםhe offeredעָשָׂהthe burnt offeringsהָעֹלוֹתand the fatוְ חֶלְבֵיof the peace offerings;הַשְּׁלָמִיםforכִּיthe altarמִזְבַּחof bronzeהַנְּחֹשֶׁתthatאֲשֶׁרSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהhad madeעָשָׂהcould notלֹא יָכוֹלholdלְהָכִילthe burnt offering,הָעֹלָהthe grain offering,וְ הַמִּנְחָהand the fat.וְ הַחֲלָבִים
Solomonשְׁלֹמֹהcelebratedוַיַּעַשׂthe feastהֶחָגat thatבָּ הַהִיאtimeעֵתsevenשִׁבְעַתdays,יָמִיםand allוְכָלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלwith him,עִמּוֹa veryמְאֹדgreatגָּדוֹלassembly,קָהָלfrom the entranceמִלְּבוֹאof Hamathחֲמָתtoעַדthe Brookנַחַלof Egypt.מִצְרָיִם
On the eighthבַּ הַשְּׁמִינִיdayיּוֹםthey heldוַיַּעֲשׂוּa solemn assembly,עֲצָרֶתforכִּיthey had heldעָשׂוּthe dedicationחֲנֻכַּתof the altarהַמִּזְבֵּחַsevenשִׁבְעַתdays,יָמִיםand the feastוְהֶחָגsevenשִׁבְעַתdays.יָמִים
On dayוּבְיוֹםtwenty-threeעֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁלֹשָׁהof the seventhלַ הַשְּׁבִיעִיmonthחֹדֶשׁhe dismissedשִׁלַּחthe peopleהָעָםto their tents,לְאָהֳלֵיהֶםjoyfulשְׂמֵחִיםand gladוְטוֹבֵיof heartלֵבforעַלthe goodהַטּוֹבָהthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad doneעָשָׂהfor Davidלְדָוִידand for Solomonוְלִשְׁלֹמֹהand for Israelוּלְיִשְׂרָאֵלhis people.עַמּוֹ
Solomonשְׁלֹמֹהfinishedוַיְכַלthe houseבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהand the houseוְ בֵּיתof the king;הַמֶּלֶךְand in allוְ כָּלthat cameהַבָּאintoעַלSolomon’sשְׁלֹמֹהheartלֵבto doלַעֲשׂוֹתin the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWHיְהוָהand in his own houseוּבְבֵיתוֹhe prospered.הִצְלִיחַ
YHWHיְהוָהappearedוַיֵּרָאtoאֶלSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהat nightבַּלָּיְלָהand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto him,לוֹ“I have heardשָׁמַעְתִּיyour prayer,תְּפִלָּתֶךָand I have chosenוּבָחַרְתִּיthisהַזֶּהplaceבַּמָּקוֹםfor myselfלִיas a houseלְבֵיתof sacrifice.זָבַח
IfהֵןI shut upאֶעֱצֹרthe heavensהַשָּׁמַיִםand there is noוְלֹא יִהְיֶהrain,מָטָרor ifוְהֵןI commandאֲצַוֶּהthe grasshopperעַל חָגָבto devourלֶאֱכוֹלthe land,הָאָרֶץor ifוְאִםI sendאֲשַׁלַּחpestilenceדֶּבֶרamong my people,בְּעַמִּי
and my people,וְ עַמִּיover whomאֲשֶׁר עֲלֵיהֶםmy nameשְׁמִיis called,נִקְרָאhumble themselvesיִכָּנְעוּand prayוְיִתְפַּלְלוּand seekוִיבַקְשׁוּmy faceפָנַיand turnוְיָשֻׁבוּfrom their evilמִ הָרָעִיםways,דַּרְכֵיהֶםthen Iוַאֲנִיwill hearאֶשְׁמַעfromמִןthe heavensהַשָּׁמַיִםand forgiveוְאֶסְלַחtheir sinלְחַטָּאתָםand healוְאֶרְפָּאtheir land.אֶת אַרְצָם
Nowעַתָּהmy eyesעֵינַיwill beיִהְיוּopenפְתֻחוֹתand my earsוְאָזְנַיattentiveקַשֻּׁבוֹתto the prayerלִתְפִלַּתof thisהַזֶּהplace.הַמָּקוֹם
And nowוְעַתָּהI have chosenבָּחַרְתִּיand consecratedוְהִקְדַּשְׁתִּיthisהַזֶּהhouseהַבַּיִתso that my nameלִ שְׁמִיmay beהְיוֹתthereשָׁםforever;עַד עוֹלָםand my eyesוְ עֵינַיand my heartוְלִבִּיwill beהָיוּthereשָׁםallכָּלthe days.הַיָּמִים
As for you,וְאַתָּהifאִםyou walkתֵּלֵךְbefore meלְפָנַיasכַּאֲשֶׁרDavidדָּוִידyour fatherאָבִיךָwalked,הָלַךְdoingוְלַעֲשׂוֹתaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרI have commanded you,צִוִּיתִיךָand keepתִּשְׁמוֹרmy statutesוְחֻקַּיand my rules,וּמִשְׁפָּטַי
then I will establishוַהֲקִימוֹתִיthe throneכִּסֵּאof your kingdom,מַלְכוּתֶךָasכַּאֲשֶׁרI covenantedכָּרַתִּיwith Davidלְדָוִידyour father,אָבִיךָsaying,לֵאמֹר‘There shall notלֹאbe cut offיִכָּרֵתfor youלְךָa manאִישׁrulingמוֹשֵׁלin Israel.’בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל
But ifוְאִםyouאַתֶּםturn awayתְּשׁוּבוּןand abandonוַעֲזַבְתֶּםmy statutesחֻקּוֹתַיand my commandmentsוּמִצְוֺתַיthatאֲשֶׁרI have setנָתַתִּיbefore you,לִפְנֵיכֶםand goוַהֲלַכְתֶּםand serveוַעֲבַדְתֶּםotherאֲחֵרִיםgodsאֱלֹהִיםand bow downוְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתֶםto them,לָהֶם
then I will uproot themוּנְתַשְׁתִּיםfromמֵעַלmy landאַדְמָתִיthatאֲשֶׁרI have givenנָתַתִּיthem,לָהֶםand thisוְ הַזֶּהhouseהַבַּיִתthatאֲשֶׁרI have consecratedהִקְדַּשְׁתִּיfor my nameלִשְׁמִיI will cast outאַשְׁלִיךְfrom before my face,מֵעַל פָּנָיand I will make itוְאֶתְּנֶנּוּa bywordלְמָשָׁלand a tauntוְלִשְׁנִינָהamong allבְּכָלthe peoples.הָעַמִּים
And thisוְ הַזֶּהhouse,הַבַּיִתwhichאֲשֶׁרwasהָיָהhigh,עֶלְיוֹןeveryoneלְכָלpassing byעֹבֵרitעָלָיוwill be appalledיִשֹּׁםand say,וְאָמַר‘Whyבַּמֶּהhas YHWHיְהוָהdoneעָשָׂהthusכָּכָהto thisלָ הַזֹּאתlandאָרֶץand to thisוְלַ הַזֶּהhouse?’בַּיִת
And they will say,וְאָמְרוּ‘Becauseעַל אֲשֶׁרthey abandonedעָזְבוּYHWH,אֶת יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof their fathers,אֲבֹתֵיהֶםwhoאֲשֶׁרbrought them outהוֹצִיאָםof the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egypt,מִצְרַיִםand held fastוַיַּחֲזִיקוּto otherבֵּ אֲחֵרִיםgodsאלֹהִיםand bowed downוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּto themלָהֶםand served them;וַיַּעַבְדוּםthereforeעַל כֵּןhe has broughtהֵבִיאupon themעֲלֵיהֶםallכָּלthisהַזֹּאתevil.’”הָרָעָה
