Genesis 12:7, word by word

Then YHWHיְהוָהyehva

YHWH

The personal name of the God of Israel, written in Hebrew with four letters, Y-H-W-H, without vowels. Out of reverence Jews stopped pronouncing it and read "Adonai" (Lord), so many Bibles put "the LORD" or "Jehovah". This translation keeps the four letters. The name is related to the verb "to be" (Exodus 3:14-15). He is not a god other than Elohim: "YHWH Elohim" is the same Creator God, called by his name.

Genesis 12:7

7Then YHWH appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to YHWH, who had appeared to him.

Galatians 3:16

16Now to Abraham the promises were spoken, and to his offspring. It does not say, And to offsprings, as of many, but as of one, And to your offspring, who is the Messiah.

The context

6Abram passed through the land as far as the place of Shechem, as far as the oak of Moreh. The Canaanites were then in the land.

7 · This verse (above)

8From there he moved on to the mountain east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to YHWH and called on the name of YHWH.
