YHWH

The personal name of the God of Israel, written in Hebrew with four letters, Y-H-W-H, without vowels. Out of reverence Jews stopped pronouncing it and read "Adonai" (Lord), so many Bibles put "the LORD" or "Jehovah". This translation keeps the four letters. The name is related to the verb "to be" (Exodus 3:14-15). He is not a god other than Elohim: "YHWH Elohim" is the same Creator God, called by his name.

Translation note

“The sons of Elohim”: it can be understood that they are heavenly beings who present themselves before YHWH like servants before their king (compare 38:7). “The Satan”: in Hebrew it is a common noun with the article, “the adversary” or “the accuser,” the one who opposes someone and accuses him. In this account he appears before YHWH and can only do what YHWH permits him. It is the name that the New Testament writes “Satan.”

The context

5And when the days of the feast had run their course, Job would send and consecrate them; he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all, for Job said, “Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed Elohim in their hearts.” Thus Job would do all the days.

6 · This verse (above)

7YHWH said to the Satan, “Where do you come from?” The Satan answered YHWH and said, “From roaming the earth and walking about on it.”
