“Leprosy” translates tsaraat, which in this chapter covers several skin diseases and also mold in fabrics and houses (14:34); it is not only the disease called leprosy today. The priest does not heal: he examines and declares clean or unclean.

The context

1YHWH spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

2 · This verse (above)

3The priest shall examine the sore on the skin of the body; and if the hair in the sore has turned white and the appearance of the sore is deeper than the skin of his body, it is a leprous sore; when the priest has examined him he shall declare him unclean.
