Translation note
“Wages of a prostitute”: the Bible calls Israel’s idolatry prostitution; it can be understood that what Samaria gathered with it will end up in the hands of another idolatrous people.
The context
6“And I will make Samaria a heap of ruins in the field, a place for planting a vineyard; and I will pour down into the valley her stones, and her foundations I will lay bare.
7 · This verse (above)
8Because of this I will lament and wail; I will go barefoot and naked; I will make a lament like the jackals, and mourning like the ostriches.
