Translation note

Jesus compared himself with this serpent: “so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life” (John 3:14-15). Centuries later King Hezekiah destroyed it because the people were burning incense to it (2 Kings 18:4).

The context

8And YHWH said to Moses, “Make for yourself a fiery serpent and set it on a pole; and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.”
