1 Peter 1:6–7
Peter compares the testing of faith to gold tested by fire
Study it word by word6In this you rejoice greatly, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,
7so that the testing of your faith, more precious than gold that perishes though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus the Messiah;
In its context
4to an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
5who are being guarded by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
…
8whom without having seen you love; in whom though now not seeing, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and glorified,
9obtaining the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
