Inἐνthisᾧyou rejoice greatly,ἀγαλλιᾶσθεthough nowἄρτιfor a little while,ὀλίγονifεἰnecessary,δέονyou have been grievedλυπηθέντεςbyἐνvariousποικίλοιςtrials,πειρασμοῖς
so thatἵναthe testingτὸ δοκίμιονof yourὑμῶνfaith,τῆς πίστεωςmore preciousπολυτιμότερονthan goldχρυσίουthat perishesτοῦ ἀπολλυμένουthoughδὲtestedδοκιμαζομένουbyδιὰfire,πυρὸςmay be foundεὑρεθῇto result inεἰςpraiseἔπαινονandκαὶgloryδόξανandκαὶhonorτιμὴνatἐνthe revelationἀποκαλύψειof JesusἸησοῦthe Messiah;Χριστοῦ
whomὃνwithout having seenοὐκ ἰδόντεςyou love;ἀγαπᾶτεinεἰςwhomὃνthough nowἄρτιnotμὴseeing,ὁρῶντεςyet believing,πιστεύοντες δὲyou rejoiceἀγαλλιᾶσθεwith joyχαρᾷinexpressibleἀνεκλαλήτῳandκαὶglorified,δεδοξασμένῃ
obtainingκομιζόμενοιthe goalτὸ τέλοςof yourὑμῶνfaith,τῆς πίστεωςthe salvationσωτηρίανof your souls.ψυχῶν
ConcerningΠερὶthisἧςsalvationσωτηρίαςthe prophetsπροφῆταιwhoοἱprophesiedπροφητεύσαντεςaboutπερὶthe graceτῆς χάριτοςmeant forεἰςyouὑμᾶςsoughtἐξεζήτησανandκαὶsearched carefully,ἐξηραύνησαν
inquiringἐραυνῶντεςintoεἰςwhat personτίναorἢwhat kind ofποῖονtimeκαιρὸνthe Spiritτὸ πνεῦμαof the MessiahΧριστοῦinἐνthemαὐτοῖςwas indicatingἐδήλουwhen he testified beforehandπρομαρτυρόμενονto the sufferingsτὰ παθήματαforεἰςthe MessiahΧριστὸνandκαὶthe gloriesτὰς δόξαςafterμετὰthese things.ταῦτα
To themοἷςit was revealedἀπεκαλύφθηthatὅτιnotοὐχfor themselvesἑαυτοῖςbutδὲfor youὑμῖνthey were servingδιηκόνουνthese thingsαὐτάwhichἃhave nowνῦνbeen announcedἀνηγγέληto youὑμῖνthroughδιὰthose who proclaimed the good newsτῶν εὐαγγελισαμένωνto youὑμᾶςby the Holy Spiritπνεύματι ἁγίῳsentἀποσταλέντιfromἀπ’heaven,οὐρανοῦthings into whichεἰς ἃangelsἄγγελοιlongἐπιθυμοῦσινto look intently.παρακύψαι
Therefore,Διὸgirding upἀναζωσάμενοιthe loinsτὰς ὀσφύαςof yourὑμῶνmind,τῆς διανοίαςbeing sober,νήφοντεςset your hopeἐλπίσατεcompletelyτελείωςonἐπὶthe graceτὴν χάρινbeing broughtφερομένηνto youὑμῖνatἐνthe revelationἀποκαλύψειof JesusἸησοῦthe Messiah.Χριστοῦ
Asὡςchildrenτέκναof obedience,ὑπακοῆςnotμὴconforming yourselvesσυσχηματιζόμενοιto the desiresταῖς ἐπιθυμίαιςyou had formerlyπρότερονinἐνyour ignorance,τῇ ἀγνοίᾳ ὑμῶν
butἀλλὰasκατὰthe one who calledτὸν καλέσανταyouὑμᾶςisholy,ἅγιονyouαὐτοὶalsoκαὶbeγενήθητεholyἅγιοιinἐνall yourπάσῃconduct,ἀναστροφῇ
becauseδιότιit is written,γέγραπταιYou shall beἔσεσθεholy,ἍγιοιbecauseὅτιIἐγὼamholy.ἅγιος
AndΚαὶifεἰyou call onἐπικαλεῖσθεas Fatherπατέραthe one whoτὸνjudgesκρίνονταwithout partialityἀπροσωπολήμπτωςaccording toκατὰeach one’sτὸ ἑκάστουwork,ἔργονconduct yourselvesἀναστράφητεinἐνfearφόβῳduring the timeτὸν χρόνονof your pilgrimage,τῆς παροικίας ὑμῶν
knowingεἰδότεςthatὅτιyou were redeemedἐλυτρώθητεnotοὐwith perishable things,φθαρτοῖςsilverἀργυρίῳorἢgold,χρυσίῳfromἐκyourὑμῶνfutileτῆς ματαίαςconductἀναστροφῆςinherited from your fathers,πατροπαραδότου
butἀλλὰwith the preciousτιμίῳbloodαἵματιof the Messiah,Χριστοῦasὡςof a lambἀμνοῦwithout defectἀμώμουandκαὶunstained,ἀσπίλου
He was foreknownπροεγνωσμένου μὲνbeforeπρὸthe foundationκαταβολῆςof the world,κόσμουbutδὲwas revealedφανερωθέντοςatἐπ’the endἐσχάτουof the timesτῶν χρόνωνfor the sake ofδι’you,ὑμᾶς
whoτοὺςthroughδι’himαὐτοῦbelieveπιστοὺςinεἰςGod,θεὸνwhoτὸνraisedἐγείρανταhimαὐτὸνfromἐκthe deadνεκρῶνandκαὶgaveδόνταhimαὐτῷglory,δόξανso thatὥστεyour faithτὴν πίστιν ὑμῶνandκαὶhopeἐλπίδαareεἶναιinεἰςGod.θεόν
