Daniel 3:16–18
Three young men trust God, “and if not,” still
Study it word by word16Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “We have no need to answer you about this matter.
17If it is so, our Elah whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of fire blazing, and from your hand, O king, he will deliver us.
18But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that your gods we do not serve, and to the image of gold that you set up we will not bow down.”
In its context
14Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that my gods you do not serve, and to the image of gold that I set up you do not bow down?
15Now if you are ready at the moment that you hear the sound of the horn, the flute, the zither, the sambuca, the psaltery, and the bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and bow down to the image that I made, good; but if you do not bow down, at that very moment you will be thrown into the midst of the furnace of fire blazing; and who is the Elah who will deliver you from my hands?”
…
19Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury, and the expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He answered and said to heat the furnace seven times more than it was customary to heat it.
20And to certain men, mighty men of strength who were in his army, he said to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, to throw them into the furnace of fire blazing.
