Job 28:20–28
Job asks where wisdom comes from and answers: only God knows its place
Study it word by word20But wisdom, from where does it come? And where is the place of understanding?
21It is concealed from the eyes of every living thing, and from the birds of the sky it is hidden.
22Abaddon and death say, ‘With our ears we have heard a report of it.’
23Elohim understands its way, and he knows its place.
24For he looks to the ends of the earth; under all the heavens he sees.
25When he made a weight for the wind, and regulated the waters by measure;
26when he made a statute for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunders;
27then he saw it and recounted it; he established it, and also searched it out.
28And he said to the human being, ‘Look, the fear of Adonai, that is wisdom, and turning away from evil, understanding.’”
In its context
18Coral and rock crystal will not be mentioned; and the acquiring of wisdom is worth more than pearls.
19The topaz of Cush cannot equal it; with pure gold it cannot be valued.
