John 11:35–36
Jesus weeps at Lazarus's tomb, and the onlookers see how he loved him
Study it word by word35Jesus wept.
36So the Jews were saying, “See how he held him dear!”
In its context
33So when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled himself,
34and he said, “Where have you laid him?” They say to him, “Lord, come and see.”
…
37But some of them said, “Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind man, have made it so that this man also would not die?”
38So Jesus, again deeply moved in himself, comes to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it.
