Mark 7:20–23
Jesus says evil comes from within, out of the heart
Study it word by word20And he was saying, “What comes out of a person, that defiles the person.
21For from within, out of the heart of people, come the evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders,
22adulteries, greed, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, an evil eye, blasphemy, arrogance, foolishness.
23All these evil things come out from within and defile the person.”
In its context
18And he says to them, “Are you so lacking in understanding too? Do you not see that whatever goes from outside into a person cannot defile him,
19because it does not go into his heart but into the stomach, and goes out into the latrine?” —declaring clean all foods.
…
24And getting up from there, he went away into the region of Tyre. And he entered into a house and wanted no one to know it, and he could not escape notice.
25But at once a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard about him, came and fell at his feet.
