Philippians 2:3–11
Paul asks us to think like the Messiah, who, in the form of God, became a slave, even to a cross
Study it word by word3Do nothing from selfish ambition or from empty conceit, but in humility regard one another as surpassing yourselves,
4each not looking out for their own interests but each also for the interests of others.
5Think this way among yourselves, which was also in the Messiah Jesus,
6who, being in the form of God, did not consider being equal to God something to be seized,
7but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming to be in the likeness of human beings; and being found in appearance as a human being,
8he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
9Therefore God also highly exalted him and granted him the name that is above every name,
10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11and every tongue confess that Jesus the Messiah is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
In its context
1So if there is any comfort in the Messiah, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,
2complete my joy so that you think the same thing, having the same love, united in soul, thinking the one thing.
…
12So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
13for it is God who works in you both to will and to work for the sake of his good pleasure.
