Translation note

The Hebrew says “son of Hur,” in the singular, and with no break before it; word for word it could be read “Caleb, son of Hur.” Since verse 19 says that Hur was the son of Caleb and Ephrath, and three sons are named next, it is understood that the list of the sons of Hur begins here.

The context

49And she bore Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbenah and the father of Gibea; and the daughter of Caleb was Achsah.
