YHWH

The personal name of the God of Israel, written in Hebrew with four letters, Y-H-W-H, without vowels. Out of reverence Jews stopped pronouncing it and read "Adonai" (Lord), so many Bibles put "the LORD" or "Jehovah". This translation keeps the four letters. The name is related to the verb "to be" (Exodus 3:14-15). He is not a god other than Elohim: "YHWH Elohim" is the same Creator God, called by his name.

In Hebrew “your god” and “Elohim” are the same word, “elohim.” The test consists in seeing who is truly Elohim: the one who answers.

The context

23Let them give us two bulls; and let them choose for themselves the one bull and cut it in pieces and lay it on the wood, but put no fire to it; and I will prepare the other bull and lay it on the wood, and I will put no fire to it.

24 · This verse (above)

25Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first, for you are the many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire to it.”
