YHWHיְהוָהyehva

YHWH

The personal name of the God of Israel, written in Hebrew with four letters, Y-H-W-H, without vowels. Out of reverence Jews stopped pronouncing it and read "Adonai" (Lord), so many Bibles put "the LORD" or "Jehovah". This translation keeps the four letters. The name is related to the verb "to be" (Exodus 3:14-15). He is not a god other than Elohim: "YHWH Elohim" is the same Creator God, called by his name.

Translation note

“You have turned their heart back”: the Hebrew is brief and allows two readings: that YHWH turns the heart of the people back to him, or that it was YHWH who allowed their heart to turn backward. The translation keeps the words as they are.

The context

36And it happened, at the time of offering the grain offering, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, “YHWH, Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that you are Elohim in Israel, and I am your servant, and that by your word I have done all these things.
