And Hiramוַ חִירָםkingמֶלֶךְof Tyreצוֹרsentיִּשְׁלַחhis servantsאֶת עֲבָדָיוtoאֶלSolomon,שְׁלֹמֹהforכִּיhe had heardשָׁמַעthatכִּיthey had anointedמָשְׁחוּhimאֹתוֹas kingלְמֶלֶךְin place ofתַּחַתhis father;אָבִיהוּforכִּיHiramחִירָםhad lovedאֹהֵב הָיָהDavidלְדָוִדallכָּלthe days.הַיָּמִים
And Solomonוַ שְׁלֹמֹהsentיִּשְׁלַחtoאֶלHiram,חִירָםsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Youאַתָּהknowיָדַעְתָּthat Davidאֶת דָּוִד כִּיmy fatherאָבִיcould notלֹא יָכֹלbuildלִבְנוֹתa houseבַּיִתfor the nameלְשֵׁםof YHWHיְהוָהhis Elohimאֱלֹהָיוbecause ofמִפְּנֵיthe warהַמִּלְחָמָהwith whichאֲשֶׁרthey surrounded him,סְבָבֻהוּuntilעַדYHWHיְהוָהputתֵּתthemאֹתָםunderתַּחַתthe solesכַּפּוֹתof my feet.רַגְלָי
But nowוְעַתָּהYHWHיְהוָהmy Elohimאֱלֹהַיhas given me restהֵנִיחַ לִיall around;מִסָּבִיבthere is noאֵיןopponentשָׂטָןand noוְאֵיןevilרָעoccurrence.פֶּגַע
So look,וְהִנְIנִיintendאֹמֵרto buildלִבְנוֹתa houseבַּיִתfor the nameלְשֵׁםof YHWHיְהוָהmy Elohim,אֱלֹהָיasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהspokeדִּבֶּרtoאֶלDavidדָּוִדmy father,אָבִיsaying,לֵאמֹר‘Your son,בִּנְךָwhomאֲשֶׁרI will setאֶתֵּןin your placeתַּחְתֶּיךָonעַלyour throne,כִּסְאֶךָheהוּאshall buildיִבְנֶהthe houseהַבַּיִתfor my name.’לִשְׁמִי
And now,וְעַתָּהcommandצַוֵּהthat they cutוְיִכְרְתוּfor meלִיcedarsאֲרָזִיםfromמִןLebanon;הַלְּבָנוֹןand my servantsוַעֲבָדַיshall beיִהְיוּwithעִםyour servants,עֲבָדֶיךָand the wagesוּשְׂכַרof your servantsעֲבָדֶיךָI will giveאֶתֵּןyouלְךָaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרyou say;תֹּאמֵרforכִּיyouאַתָּהknowיָדַעְתָּthatכִּיthere is noאֵיןone among usבָּנוּ אִישׁwho knows howיֹדֵעַto cutלִכְרָתtimberעֵצִיםlike the Sidonians.”כַּצִּדֹנִים
And it happened,וַיְהִיwhen Hiramכִּ חִירָםheardשְׁמֹעַthe wordsאֶת דִּבְרֵיof Solomon,שְׁלֹמֹהthat he rejoicedוַיִּשְׂמַחgreatlyמְאֹדand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Blessed beבָּרוּךְYHWHיְהוָהtoday,הַיּוֹםwhoאֲשֶׁרhas givenנָתַןto Davidלְדָוִדa wiseחָכָםsonבֵּןoverעַלthisהַזֶּהgreatהָרָבpeople.”הָעָם
And Hiramוַ חִירָםsentיִּשְׁלַחtoאֶלSolomon,שְׁלֹמֹהsaying,לֵאמֹר“I have heardשָׁמַעְתִּיwhatאֵת אֲשֶׁרyou sentשָׁלַחְתָּto me;אֵלָיIאֲנִיwill doאֶעֱשֶׂהallאֶת כָּלyour pleasureחֶפְצְךָconcerning timberבַּעֲצֵיof cedarאֲרָזִיםand timberוּבַעֲצֵיof cypress.בְרוֹשִׁים
My servantsעֲבָדַיwill bring them downיֹרִדוּfromמִןLebanonהַלְּבָנוֹןto the sea,יָמָּהand Iוַאֲנִיwill make themאֲשִׂימֵםinto raftsדֹּבְרוֹתon the seaבַּיָּםtoעַדthe placeהַמָּקוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרyou will send wordתִּשְׁלַחto me,אֵלַיand I will break them upוְנִפַּצְתִּיםthere,שָׁםand youוְאַתָּהwill carry them away;תִשָּׂאand youוְאַתָּהwill doתַּעֲשֶׂהmy pleasureאֶת חֶפְצִיby givingלָתֵתfoodלֶחֶםfor my house.”בֵּיתִי
So Hiramוַ חִירוֹםwasיְהִיgivingנֹתֵןSolomonלִשְׁלֹמֹהtimberעֲצֵיof cedarאֲרָזִיםand timberוַעֲצֵיof cypress,בְרוֹשִׁיםallכָּלhis pleasure.חֶפְצוֹ
And SolomonוּשְׁלֹמֹהgaveנָתַןHiramלְחִירָםtwentyעֶשְׂרִיםthousandאֶלֶףkorsכֹּרof wheatחִטִּיםas sustenanceמַכֹּלֶתfor his house,לְבֵיתוֹand twentyוְעֶשְׂרִיםkorsכֹּרof beatenכָּתִיתoil;שֶׁמֶןthusכֹּהSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהwould giveיִתֵּןto Hiramלְחִירָםyearשָׁנָהby year.בְשָׁנָה
And YHWHוַיהוָהgaveנָתַןwisdomחָכְמָהto Solomon,לִשְׁלֹמֹהasכַּאֲשֶׁרhe had spokenדִּבֶּרto him;לוֹand there wasוַיְהִיpeaceשָׁלֹםbetweenבֵּיןHiramחִירָםandוּבֵיןSolomon,שְׁלֹמֹהand the two of themשְׁנֵיהֶםmadeוַיִּכְרְתוּa covenant.בְרִית
And Kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהraisedיַּעַלforced laborמַסfrom allמִכָּלIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלand the forced laborוַ הַמַּסwasיְהִיthirtyשְׁלֹשִׁיםthousandאֶלֶףmen.אִישׁ
And he sent themוַיִּשְׁלָחֵםto Lebanon,לְבָנוֹנָהtenעֲשֶׂרֶתthousandאֲלָפִיםa monthבַּחֹדֶשׁin shifts:חֲלִיפוֹתa monthחֹדֶשׁthey would beיִהְיוּin Lebanon,בַלְּבָנוֹןtwoשְׁנַיִםmonthsחֳדָשִׁיםat home;בְּבֵיתוֹand Adoniramוַאֲדֹנִירָםwas overעַלthe forced labor.הַמַּס
And Solomonוַ לִשְׁלֹמֹהhadיְהִיseventyשִׁבְעִיםthousandאֶלֶףburdenסַבָּלbearersנֹשֵׂאand eightyוּשְׁמֹנִיםthousandאֶלֶףstonecuttersחֹצֵבin the mountains,בָּהָר
besidesלְבַד מִthe chiefsשָּׂרֵיof the prefectsהַנִּצָּבִיםof Solomonלִשְׁלֹמֹהwho wereאֲשֶׁרoverעַלthe work,הַמְּלָאכָהthreeשְׁלֹשֶׁתthousandאֲלָפִיםand threeוּשְׁלֹשׁhundred,מֵאוֹתwho ruledהָרֹדִיםover the peopleבָּעָםwho didהָעֹשִׂיםthe work.בַּמְּלָאכָה
And the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְcommanded,יְצַוand they quarriedוַיַּסִּעוּgreatגְּדֹלוֹתstones,אֲבָנִיםcostlyיְקָרוֹתstones,אֲבָנִיםto lay the foundationלְיַסֵּדof the houseהַבָּיִתwith hewnגָזִיתstones.אַבְנֵי
And the buildersבֹּנֵיof Solomonשְׁלֹמֹהand the buildersוּבֹנֵיof Hiramחִירוֹםand the Gebalitesוְהַגִּבְלִיםhewed themוַיִּפְסְלוּand preparedוַיָּכִינוּthe timberהָעֵצִיםand the stonesוְהָאֲבָנִיםto buildלִבְנוֹתthe house.הַבָּיִת
