The inhabitantsיוֹשְׁבֵיof Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםmade kingוַיַּמְלִיכוּin his placeתַּחְתָּיוAhaziah,אֲחַזְיָהוּhis youngest son,בְנוֹ הַקָּטֹןforכִּיthe bandהַגְּדוּדthat cameהַבָּאwith the Arabsבָעַרְבִיםto the campלַמַּחֲנֶהhad killedהָרַגallכָלthe older ones.הָרִאשֹׁנִיםSo Ahaziahוַ אֲחַזְיָהוּsonבֶןof Joram,יְהוֹרָםkingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהreigned.יִּמְלֹךְ
Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָהוּwas forty-twoאַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁתַּיִםyears oldבֶּן שָׁנָהwhen he began to reign,בְמָלְכוֹand he reignedמָלַךְoneאַחַתyearוְשָׁנָהin Jerusalem.בִּירוּשָׁלִָםAnd his mother’sוְ אִמּוֹnameשֵׁםwas Athaliahעֲתַלְיָהוּdaughterבַּתof Omri.עָמְרִי
He tooגַּם הוּאwalkedהָלַךְin the waysבְּדַרְכֵיof the houseבֵּיתof Ahab,אַחְאָבforכִּיhis motherאִמּוֹwasהָיְתָהhis counselorיוֹעַצְתּוֹin acting wickedly.לְהַרְשִׁיעַ
He didוַיַּעַשׂwhat was evilהָרַעin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWH,יְהוָהlike the houseכְּבֵיתof Ahab,אַחְאָבforכִּיtheyהֵמָּהwereהָיוּhisלוֹcounselorsיוֹעֲצִיםafterאַחֲרֵיthe deathמוֹתof his father,אָבִיוto his destruction.לְמַשְׁחִית לוֹ
He alsoגַּםwalkedהָלַךְin their counsel,בַּעֲצָתָםand wentוַיֵּלֶךְwithאֶתJoramיְהוֹרָםsonבֶּןof Ahab,אַחְאָבkingמֶלֶךְof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלto warלַמִּלְחָמָהagainstעַלHazaelחֲזָאֵלkingמֶלֶךְof Aramאֲרָםat Ramoth-gilead;בְּרָמוֹת גִּלְעָדand the ArameansהָרַמִּיםwoundedוַיַּכּוּJoram.אֶת יוֹרָם
He returnedוַיָּשָׁבto be healedלְהִתְרַפֵּאin Jezreelבְיִזְרְעֶאלfromכִּיthe woundsהַמַּכִּיםthatאֲשֶׁרthey had inflicted on himהִכֻּהוּat Ramah,בָרָמָהwhen he foughtבְּהִלָּחֲמוֹagainstאֶתHazaelחֲזָהאֵלkingמֶלֶךְof Aram.אֲרָםAnd Azariahוַעֲזַרְיָהוּsonבֶןof Joram,יְהוֹרָםkingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהwent downיָרַדto seeלִרְאוֹתJoramיְהוֹרָםsonבֶּןof Ahabאַחְאָבin Jezreel,בְּיִזְרְעֶאלforכִּיheהוּאwas sick.חֹלֶה
The ruinתְּבוּסַתof Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָהוּwasהָיְתָהfrom Elohim,וּמֵאֱלֹהִיםby comingלָבוֹאtoאֶלJoram;יוֹרָםfor when he came,וּבְבֹאוֹhe went outיָצָאwithעִםJoramיְהוֹרָםagainstאֶלJehuיֵהוּאsonבֶןof Nimshi,נִמְשִׁיwhomאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad anointedמְשָׁחוֹto cut offלְהַכְרִיתthe houseבֵּיתof Ahab.אַחְאָב
And it happened,וַיְהִיwhen Jehuכְּ יֵהוּאwas executing judgmentהִשָּׁפֵטonעִםthe houseבֵּיתof Ahab,אַחְאָבthat he foundוַיִּמְצָאthe officialsשָׂרֵיof Judahיְהוּדָהand the sonsוּבְנֵיof the brothersאֲחֵיof Ahaziah,אֲחַזְיָהוּministeringמְשָׁרְתִיםto Ahaziah,לַאֲחַזְיָהוּand he killed them.וַיַּהַרְגֵם
He soughtוַיְבַקֵּשׁAhaziah,אֲחַזְיָהוּand they captured himוַיִּלְכְּדֻהוּ—heוְהוּאwas hidingמִתְחַבֵּאin Samaria—בְשֹׁמְרוֹןand brought himוַיְבִאֻהוּtoאֶלJehu,יֵהוּאand put him to death;וַיְמִתֻהוּand they buried him,וַיִּקְבְּרֻהוּforכִּיthey said,אָמְרוּ“Heהוּאis the sonבֶּןof Jehoshaphat,יְהוֹשָׁפָטwhoאֲשֶׁרsoughtדָּרַשׁYHWHיְהוָהwith allבְּכָלhis heart.”לְבָבוֹAnd there was no oneוְאֵיןin the houseלְבֵיתof Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָהוּto retainלַעְצֹרstrengthכֹּחַfor the kingdom.לְמַמְלָכָה
Athaliah,וַעֲתַלְיָהוּthe motherאֵםof Ahaziah,אֲחַזְיָהוּsawרָאֲתָהthatכִּיher sonבְּנָהּwas dead,מֵתand she roseוַתָּקָםand destroyedוַתְּדַבֵּרallכָּלthe royalהַמַּמְלָכָהoffspringזֶרַעof the houseלְבֵיתof Judah.יְהוּדָה
But Jehoshabeath,וַ יְהוֹשַׁבְעַתthe daughterבַּתof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְtookתִּקַּחJoashיוֹאָשׁsonבֶּןof Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָהוּand stoleוַתִּגְנֹבhimאֹתוֹfrom amongמִתּוֹךְthe king’sהַמֶּלֶךְsonsבְּנֵיwho were being put to death,הַמּוּמָתִיםand she putוַתִּתֵּןhimאֹתוֹandוְhis nurseמֵינִקְתּוֹin the roomבַּחֲדַרof the beds.הַמִּטּוֹתSo Jehoshabeath,וַ יְהוֹשַׁבְעַתthe daughterבַּתof KingהַמֶּלֶךְJoram,יְהוֹרָםthe wifeאֵשֶׁתof Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעthe priestהַכֹּהֵן—forכִּיsheהִיאwasהָיְתָהthe sisterאֲחוֹתof Ahaziah—אֲחַזְיָהוּhid himתַּסְתִּירֵהוּfromמִפְּנֵיAthaliah,עֲתַלְיָהוּand she did notוְלֹאput him to death.הֱמִיתָתְהוּ
He wasוַיְהִיwith themאִתָּםin the houseבְּבֵיתof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםhidden,מִתְחַבֵּאsixשֵׁשׁyears,שָׁנִיםwhile Athaliahוַעֲתַלְיָהwas reigningמֹלֶכֶתoverעַלthe land.הָאָרֶץ
