In the seventhוּ הַשְּׁבִעִיתyearבַשָּׁנָהJehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעstrengthened himselfהִתְחַזַּקand tookוַיִּקַּחthe commandersשָׂרֵיof hundredsהַמֵּאוֹתinto a covenantבַבְּרִיתwith him:עִמּוֹAzariahלַעֲזַרְיָהוּsonבֶןof Jeroham,יְרֹחָםIshmaelוּלְיִשְׁמָעֵאלsonבֶּןof Jehohanan,יְהוֹחָנָןAzariahוְלַעֲזַרְיָהוּsonבֶןof Obed,עוֹבֵדMaaseiahוְאֶת מַעֲשֵׂיָהוּsonבֶןof Adaiah,עֲדָיָהוּand Elishaphatוְאֶת אֱלִישָׁפָטsonבֶּןof Zichri.זִכְרִי
They went aroundוַיָּסֹבּוּthrough Judahבִּיהוּדָהand gatheredוַיִּקְבְּצוּthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּםfrom allמִכָּלthe citiesעָרֵיof Judah,יְהוּדָהand the headsוְרָאשֵׁיof the fathers’ housesהָאָבוֹתof Israel,לְיִשְׂרָאֵלand they cameוַיָּבֹאוּtoאֶלJerusalem.יְרוּשָׁלִָם
Allכָּלthe assemblyהַקָּהָלmadeוַיִּכְרֹתa covenantבְּרִיתin the houseבְּבֵיתof Elohimהָאֱלֹהִיםwithעִםthe king.הַמֶּלֶךְAnd Jehoiada saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,לָהֶם“Look,הִנֵּהthe sonבֶןof the kingהַמֶּלֶךְshall reign,יִמְלֹךְasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהspokeדִּבֶּרconcerningעַלthe sonsבְּנֵיof David.דָוִיד
Thisזֶהis the thingהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרyou are to do:תַּעֲשׂוּa thirdהַשְּׁלִשִׁיתof you,מִכֶּםthose who come inבָּאֵיon the Sabbath,הַשַּׁבָּתof the priestsלַכֹּהֲנִיםand of the Levites,וְלַלְוִיִּםwill be gatekeepersלְשֹׁעֲרֵיof the thresholds;הַסִּפִּים
and a thirdוְהַשְּׁלִשִׁיתwill be at the houseבְּבֵיתof the king;הַמֶּלֶךְand a thirdוְהַשְּׁלִשִׁיתat the gateבְּשַׁעַרof the Foundation;הַיְסוֹדand allוְכָלthe peopleהָעָםwill be in the courtsבְּחַצְרוֹתof the houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
Let no oneוְאַלenterיָבוֹאthe houseבֵיתof YHWHיְהוָהexceptכִּי אִםthe priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםand the Levitesוְ לַלְוִיִּםwho minister;הַמְשָׁרְתִיםtheyהֵמָּהmay enter,יָבֹאוּforכִּיtheyהֵמָּהare holy;קֹדֶשׁand allוְכָלthe peopleהָעָםshall keepיִשְׁמְרוּthe chargeמִשְׁמֶרֶתof YHWH.יְהוָה
The Levitesהַלְוִיִּםshall surroundוְהִקִּיפוּthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְall around,סָבִיבeach manאִישׁwith his weaponsוְכֵלָיוin his hand;בְּיָדוֹand whoever comesוְהַבָּאintoאֶלthe houseהַבַּיִתis to be put to death.יוּמָתBeוִהְיוּwithאֶתthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְwhen he comes inבְּבֹאוֹand when he goes out.”וּבְצֵאתוֹ
The Levitesהַלְוִיִּםand allוְכָלJudahיְהוּדָהdidוַיַּעֲשׂוּaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרJehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעthe priestהַכֹּהֵןcommanded;צִוָּהeachאִישׁtookוַיִּקְחוּhis men,אֲנָשָׁיוthose who were coming inבָּאֵיon the Sabbathהַשַּׁבָּתwithעִםthose who were going outיוֹצְאֵיon the Sabbath,הַשַּׁבָּתforכִּיJehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעthe priestהַכֹּהֵןhad notלֹאdismissedפָטַרthe divisions.הַמַּחְלְקוֹת
Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעthe priestהַכֹּהֵןgaveוַיִּתֵּןto the commandersלְשָׂרֵיof hundredsהַמֵּאוֹתthe spearsהַחֲנִיתִיםand the shieldsוְ הַמָּגִנּוֹתand the bucklersוְ הַשְּׁלָטִיםthatאֲשֶׁרhad belonged to KingלַמֶּלֶךְDavid,דָּוִידwhichאֲשֶׁרwere in the houseבֵּיתof Elohim.הָאֱלֹהִים
He stationedוַיַּעֲמֵדallכָּלthe people,הָעָםeach manוְאִישׁwith his weaponשִׁלְחוֹin his hand,בְיָדוֹfrom the rightהַיְמָנִיתsideמִכֶּתֶףof the houseהַבַּיִתtoעַדthe leftהַשְּׂמָאלִיתsideכֶּתֶףof the house,הַבַּיִתby the altarלַמִּזְבֵּחַand by the house,וְלַבָּיִתaroundעַל סָבִיבthe king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
They brought outוַיּוֹצִיאוּthe king’sהַמֶּלֶךְsonבֶּןand putוַיִּתְּנוּon himעָלָיוthe crownהַנֵּזֶרand the testimony,וְאֶת הָעֵדוּתand made him king;וַיַּמְלִיכוּ אֹתוֹand Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעand his sonsוּבָנָיוanointed him,וַיִּמְשָׁחֻהוּand they said,וַיֹּאמְרוּ“Long liveיְחִיthe king!”הַמֶּלֶךְ
Athaliahעֲתַלְיָהוּheardוַתִּשְׁמַעthe noiseקוֹלof the peopleהָעָםrunningהָרָצִיםand praisingוְהַמְהַלְלִיםthe king,הַמֶּלֶךְand she cameוַתָּבוֹאtoאֶלthe peopleהָעָםin the houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
She looked,וַתֵּרֶאand there wasוְהִנֵּהthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְstandingעוֹמֵדbyעַלhis pillarעַמּוּדוֹat the entrance,בַּמָּבוֹאand the commandersוְהַשָּׂרִיםand the trumpetsוְהַחֲצֹצְרוֹתbesideעַלthe king,הַמֶּלֶךְand allוְכָלthe peopleעַםof the landהָאָרֶץrejoicingשָׂמֵחַand blowingוְתוֹקֵעַthe trumpets,בַּחֲצֹצְרוֹתand the singersוְהַמְשׁוֹרֲרִיםwith instrumentsבִּכְלֵיof songהַשִּׁירleadingוּמוֹדִיעִיםthe praise.לְהַלֵּלAthaliahעֲתַלְיָהוּtoreוַתִּקְרַעher clothesבְּגָדֶיהָand said,וַתֹּאמֶר“Conspiracy!קֶשֶׁרConspiracy!”קָשֶׁר
Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעthe priestהַכֹּהֵןbrought outוַיּוֹצֵאthe commandersשָׂרֵיof hundreds,הַמֵּאוֹתthose appointedפְּקוּדֵיover the army,הַחַיִלand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵהֶם“Bring her outהוֹצִיאוּהָbetweenאֶל מִבֵּיתthe ranks,הַשְּׂדֵרוֹתand whoever comesוְהַבָּאafter her,אַחֲרֶיהָlet him be put to deathיוּמַתwith the sword.”בֶּחָרֶבForכִּיthe priestהַכֹּהֵןhad said,אָמַר“Do notלֹאput her to deathתְמִיתוּהָin the houseבֵּיתof YHWH.”יְהוָה
They laidוַיָּשִׂימוּhandsיָדַיִםon her,לָהּand she cameוַתָּבוֹאtoאֶלthe entranceמְבוֹאof the gateשַׁעַרof the Horsesהַסּוּסִיםof the houseבֵּיתof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְand thereוַ שָׁםthey put her to death.יְמִיתוּהָ
Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעmadeוַיִּכְרֹתa covenantבְּרִיתbetween himselfבֵּינוֹandוּבֵיןallכָּלthe peopleהָעָםandוּבֵיןthe king,הַמֶּלֶךְthat they should beלִהְיוֹתa peopleלְעָםfor YHWH.לַיהוָה
Allכָלthe peopleהָעָםwentוַיָּבֹאוּto the houseבֵּיתof Baalהַבַּעַלand tore it down;וַיִּתְּצֻהוּits altarsוְאֶת מִזְבְּחֹתָיוand its imagesוְאֶת צְלָמָיוthey smashed,שִׁבֵּרוּand Mattan,וְאֵת מַתָּןthe priestכֹּהֵןof Baal,הַבַּעַלthey killedהָרְגוּbeforeלִפְנֵיthe altars.הַמִּזְבְּחוֹת
Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעputוַיָּשֶׂםthe officesפְּקֻדֹּתof the houseבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהin the handבְּיַדof the priests,הַכֹּהֲנִיםthe Levites,הַלְוִיִּםwhomאֲשֶׁרDavidדָּוִידhad dividedחָלַקoverעַלthe houseבֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהto offerלְהַעֲלוֹתthe burnt offeringsעֹלוֹתof YHWH,יְהוָהasכַּit is writtenכָּתוּבin the lawבְּתוֹרַתof Moses,מֹשֶׁהwith joyבְּשִׂמְחָהand with song,וּבְשִׁירunder the directionעַל יְדֵיof David.דָוִיד
He stationedוַיַּעֲמֵדthe gatekeepersהַשּׁוֹעֲרִיםatעַלthe gatesשַׁעֲרֵיof the houseבֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהso that noוְלֹאunclean personטָמֵאwould enterיָבֹאfor anyלְכָלreason.דָּבָר
He tookוַיִּקַּחthe commandersשָׂרֵיof hundreds,הַמֵּאוֹתand the nobles,וְאֶת הָאַדִּירִיםand those who governedוְאֶת הַמּוֹשְׁלִיםamong the people,בָּעָםand allוְאֵת כָּלthe peopleעַםof the land,הָאָרֶץand brought downוַיּוֹרֶדthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְfrom the houseמִבֵּיתof YHWH;יְהוָהand they cameוַיָּבֹאוּthroughבְּתוֹךְthe UpperהָעֶלְיוֹןGateשַׁעַרto the houseבֵּיתof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְand they seatedוַיּוֹשִׁיבוּthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְonעַלthe throneכִּסֵּאof the kingdom.הַמַּמְלָכָה
Allכָלthe peopleעַםof the landהָאָרֶץrejoiced,וַיִּשְׂמְחוּand the cityוְהָעִירwas quiet;שָׁקָטָהand Athaliahוְ עֲתַלְיָהוּthey had put to deathהֵמִיתוּwith the sword.בֶחָרֶב
