YHWH

The personal name of the God of Israel, written in Hebrew with four letters, Y-H-W-H, without vowels. The name is related to the verb "to be" (Exodus 3:14-15). He is not a god other than Elohim: "YHWH Elohim" is the same Creator God, called by his name.

2 Chronicles 26:1-23

1All the people of Judah took Uzziah, and he was sixteen years old, and they made him king in place of his father Amaziah. 2He built Eloth and brought it back to Judah, after the king lay down with his fathers. 3Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. 4He did what was right in the eyes of YHWH, according to all that Amaziah his father had done. 5He set himself to seek Elohim in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of Elohim; and in the days that he sought YHWH, Elohim made him prosper. 6He went out and fought against the Philistines, and made a breach in the wall of Gath and in the wall of Jabneh and in the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in Ashdod and among the Philistines. 7Elohim helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabs who lived in Gur-baal, and against the Meunites. 8The Ammonites gave tribute to Uzziah, and his name went as far as the entrance of Egypt, for he had become strong exceedingly. 9Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem on the Corner Gate and on the Valley Gate and on the angle, and fortified them. 10He built towers in the wilderness and hewed out many cisterns, for he had much livestock, both in the Shephelah and in the plain, and he had farmers and vinedressers in the mountains and in the fertile fields, for he loved the ground. 11Uzziah had a force that made war, going out to the army by bands, according to the number of their count, by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the supervisor, under the direction of Hananiah, one of the commanders of the king. 12The whole number of the heads of the fathers’ houses, of the mighty men of valor, was two thousand six hundred. 13And under their direction was an army force of three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, who made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy. 14Uzziah prepared for them, for all the army, shields, spears, helmets, coats of mail, bows, and stones for slings. 15He made in Jerusalem devices, the invention of an inventor, to be on the towers and on the corners, to shoot arrows and large stones. And his name went out far, for he was marvelously helped until he was strong. 16But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his own destruction; he was unfaithful to YHWH his Elohim, and went into the temple of YHWH to burn incense on the altar of incense. 17Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of YHWH, valiant men. 18They stood against Uzziah the king and said to him, “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to YHWH, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful, and this will not be for your honor from YHWH Elohim.” 19Uzziah was enraged, and in his hand was a censer to burn incense; and when he was enraged with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the house of YHWH, beside the altar of incense. 20Azariah the head priest and all the priests turned toward him, and look, he was leprous on his forehead. They rushed him out of there, and he himself also hurried to go out, because YHWH had struck him. 21Uzziah the king was leprous until the day of his death, and he lived in a separate house, leprous, for he was cut off from the house of YHWH; and Jotham his son was over the house of the king, judging the people of the land. 22The rest of the acts of Uzziah, the first and the last, Isaiah son of Amoz, the prophet, wrote. 23Uzziah lay down with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial that belonged to the kings, for they said, “He is leprous.” And Jotham his son reigned in his place.

2 Kings 15:1-7

1In year twenty-seven of Jeroboam king of Israel, Azariah son of Amaziah, king of Judah, became king. 2He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. 3He did what was right in the eyes of YHWH, according to all that Amaziah his father had done. 4Only the high places did not go away; the people were still sacrificing and burning incense on the high places. 5YHWH struck the king, and he was a leper until the day of his death, and he lived in a separate house; and Jotham the son of the king was over the house, judging the people of the land. 6The rest of the acts of Azariah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 7Azariah lay down with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David; and Jotham his son reigned in his place.
