He setוַיַּעֲמֵדthe priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםin their watchesעַל מִשְׁמְרוֹתָםand strengthened themוַיְחַזְּקֵםfor the serviceלַעֲבוֹדַתof the houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
He saidוַיֹּאמֶרto the Levitesלַלְוִיִּםwho taughtהַמְּבִינִיםallלְכָלIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלwho were holyהַקְּדוֹשִׁיםto YHWH,לַיהוָה“Putתְּנוּthe holy arkאֶת אֲרוֹן הַקֹּדֶשׁin the houseבַּבַּיִתthatאֲשֶׁרSolomonשְׁלֹמֹהsonבֶןof David,דָּוִידkingמֶלֶךְof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלbuilt;בָּנָהit is noאֵיןlonger a burdenמַשָּׂאfor youלָכֶםon the shoulder.בַּכָּתֵףNowעַתָּהserveעִבְדוּYHWHאֶת יְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםand his peopleוְאֵת עַמּוֹIsrael.יִשְׂרָאֵל
Prepare yourselvesוְהָכִונוּby your fathers’ houses,לְבֵית אֲבוֹתֵיכֶםaccording to your divisions,כְּמַחְלְקוֹתֵיכֶםfollowing the writingבִּכְתָבof Davidדָּוִידkingמֶלֶךְof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלand the writingוּבְמִכְתַּבof Solomonשְׁלֹמֹהhis son.בְנוֹ
Standוְעִמְדוּin the Holy Placeבַקֹּדֶשׁby the sectionsלִפְלֻגּוֹתof the fathers’ housesבֵּית הָאָבוֹתof your brothers,לַאֲחֵיכֶםthe sonsבְּנֵיof the people,הָעָםand by the portionוַחֲלֻקַּתof a father’s houseבֵּית אָבof the Levites.לַלְוִיִּם
Slaughterוְשַׁחֲטוּthe Passover,הַפָּסַחsanctify yourselves,וְהִתְקַדְּשׁוּand prepareוְהָכִינוּfor your brothers,לַאֲחֵיכֶםto doלַעֲשׂוֹתaccording to the wordכִּדְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהthroughבְּיַדMoses.”מֹשֶׁה
Josiahיֹאשִׁיָּהוּcontributedוַיָּרֶםto the sonsלִבְנֵיof the peopleהָעָםflock animals,צֹאןlambsכְּבָשִׂיםand young goats,וּבְנֵי עִזִּיםallהַכֹּלfor the Passover offerings,לַפְּסָחִיםfor allלְכָלwho were present,הַנִּמְצָאto the numberלְמִסְפַּרof thirtyשְׁלֹשִׁיםthousand,אֶלֶףand threeוּ שְׁלֹשֶׁתthousandאֲלָפִיםcattle;בָקָרtheseאֵלֶּהwere from the possessionsמֵרְכוּשׁof the king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
And his officialsוְשָׂרָיוcontributedהֵרִימוּas a freewill offeringלִנְדָבָהto the people,לָעָםto the priests,לַכֹּהֲנִיםand to the Levites.וְלַלְוִיִּםHilkiah,חִלְקִיָּהZechariah,וּזְכַרְיָהוּand Jehiel,וִיחִיאֵלthe leadersנְגִידֵיof the houseבֵּיתof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםgaveנָתְנוּto the priestsלַכֹּהֲנִיםfor the Passover offeringsלַפְּסָחִיםtwo thousandאַלְפַּיִםsixוְשֵׁשׁhundred flock animalsמֵאוֹתand threeוּ שְׁלֹשׁhundredמֵאוֹתcattle.בָקָר
Conaniah,וְכָנַנְיָהוּand Shemaiahוּשְׁמַעְיָהוּand Nethanelוּנְתַנְאֵלhis brothers,אֶחָיוand Hashabiah,וַחֲשַׁבְיָהוּJeiel,וִיעִיאֵלand Jozabad,וְיוֹזָבָדthe officialsשָׂרֵיof the Levites,הַלְוִיִּםcontributedהֵרִימוּto the Levitesלַלְוִיִּםfor the Passover offeringsלַפְּסָחִיםfiveחֲמֵשֶׁתthousand flock animalsאֲלָפִיםand fiveוּ חֲמֵשׁhundredמֵאוֹתcattle.בָקָר
So the serviceוַ הָעֲבוֹדָהwas prepared,תִּכּוֹןand the priestsוַ הַכֹּהֲנִיםstoodיַּעַמְדוּat their post,עַל עָמְדָםand the Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּםby their divisions,עַל מַחְלְקוֹתָםaccording to the commandmentכְּמִצְוַתof the king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
They slaughteredוַיִּשְׁחֲטוּthe Passover,הַפָּסַחand the priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםsplashed the blood they receivedוַיִּזְרְקוּfrom their hand,מִיָּדָםand the Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּםwere skinning.מַפְשִׁיטִים
They set apartוַיָּסִירוּthe burnt offeringהָעֹלָהto give itלְתִתָּםby the sectionsלְמִפְלַגּוֹתof the fathers’ housesלְבֵית אָבוֹתto the sonsלִבְנֵיof the people,הָעָםto presentלְהַקְרִיבto YHWH,לַיהוָהasכַּit is writtenכָּתוּבin the bookבְּסֵפֶרof Moses;מֹשֶׁהand soוְכֵןthey did with the cattle.לַבָּקָר
They cookedוַיְבַשְּׁלוּthe Passoverהַפֶּסַחover the fireבָּאֵשׁaccording to the rule,כַּמִּשְׁפָּטand the holy thingsוְהַקֳּדָשִׁיםthey cookedבִּשְּׁלוּin pots,בַּסִּירוֹתin caldrons,וּבַדְּוָדִיםand in pans,וּבַצֵּלָחוֹתand brought them quicklyוַיָּרִיצוּto allלְכָלthe sonsבְּנֵיof the people.הָעָם
Afterwardוְאַחַרthey preparedהֵכִינוּfor themselvesלָהֶםand for the priests,וְלַכֹּהֲנִיםbecauseכִּיthe priests,הַכֹּהֲנִיםthe sonsבְּנֵיof Aaron,אַהֲרֹןwere busy offeringבְּהַעֲלוֹתthe burnt offeringהָעוֹלָהand the fat portionsוְהַחֲלָבִיםuntilעַדnight;לָיְלָהso the Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּםpreparedהֵכִינוּfor themselvesלָהֶםand for the priests,וְלַכֹּהֲנִיםthe sonsבְּנֵיof Aaron.אַהֲרֹן
The singers,וְהַמְשֹׁרֲרִיםthe sonsבְּנֵיof Asaph,אָסָףwere at their post,עַל מַעֲמָדָםaccording to the commandmentכְּמִצְוַתof David,דָּוִידAsaph,וְאָסָףHeman,וְהֵימָןand Jeduthunוִידֻתוּןthe seerחוֹזֵהof the king;הַמֶּלֶךְand the gatekeepersוְהַשֹּׁעֲרִיםwere at eachלְשַׁעַר וָgate.שָׁעַרThere was noאֵיןneed for themלָהֶםto turn awayלָסוּרfromמֵעַלtheir service,עֲבֹדָתָםforכִּיtheir brothersאֲחֵיהֶםthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּםpreparedהֵכִינוּfor them.לָהֶם
So allוַ כָּלthe serviceעֲבוֹדַתof YHWHיְהוָהwas preparedתִּכּוֹןon that dayבַּיּוֹם הַהוּאto celebrateלַעֲשׂוֹתthe Passoverהַפֶּסַחand to offerוְהַעֲלוֹתburnt offeringsעֹלוֹתonעַלthe altarמִזְבַּחof YHWH,יְהוָהaccording to the commandmentכְּמִצְוַתof KingהַמֶּלֶךְJosiah.יֹאשִׁיָּהוּ
The sonsוַ בְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwho were presentהַנִּמְצְאִיםcelebratedיַּעֲשׂוּthe Passoverאֶת הַפֶּסַחat that time,בָּעֵת הַהִיאand the Feastוְאֶת חַגof Unleavened Breadהַמַּצּוֹתsevenשִׁבְעַתdays.יָמִים
NoוְלֹאPassoverפֶסַחlike itכָּמֹהוּhad been celebratedנַעֲשָׂהin Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלsince the daysמִימֵיof Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלthe prophet;הַנָּבִיאand none ofוְכָל לֹאthe kingsמַלְכֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלhad celebratedעָשׂוּsuch a PassoverכַּפֶּסַחasאֲשֶׁרJosiahיֹאשִׁיָּהוּcelebrated,עָשָׂהand the priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםand the Levites,וְהַלְוִיִּםand allוְכָלJudahיְהוּדָהand Israelוְיִשְׂרָאֵלwho were present,הַנִּמְצָאand the inhabitantsוְיוֹשְׁבֵיof Jerusalem.יְרוּשָׁלִָם
In the eighteenthבִּשְׁמוֹנֶה עֶשְׂרֵהyearשָׁנָהof the reignלְמַלְכוּתof JosiahיֹאשִׁיָּהוּthisהַזֶּהPassoverהַפֶּסַחwas celebrated.נַעֲשָׂה
Afterאַחֲרֵיallכָלthis,זֹאתwhenאֲשֶׁרJosiahיֹאשִׁיָּהוּhad preparedהֵכִיןthe house,אֶת הַבַּיִתNecoנְכוֹkingמֶלֶךְof Egyptמִצְרַיִםwent upעָלָהto fightלְהִלָּחֵםat Carchemishבְּכַרְכְּמִישׁonעַלthe Euphrates;פְּרָתand Josiahיֹאשִׁיָּהוּwent outוַיֵּצֵאto meet him.לִקְרָאתוֹ
But he sentוַיִּשְׁלַחmessengersמַלְאָכִיםto him,אֵלָיוsaying,לֵאמֹר“Whatמַהhave Iלִּיto do with you,וָלָךְkingמֶלֶךְof Judah?יְהוּדָהI am not comingלֹאagainst youעָלֶיךָ אַתָּהtoday,הַיּוֹםbutכִּיagainstאֶלthe houseבֵּיתwith which I am at war;מִלְחַמְתִּיand Elohimוֵאלֹהִיםhas toldאָמַרme to hurry.לְבַהֲלֵנִיStop opposingחֲדַל לְךָElohim,מֵאֱלֹהִיםwhoאֲשֶׁרis with me,עִמִּיso that he does notוְאַלdestroy you.”יַשְׁחִיתֶךָ
But Josiahוְ יֹאשִׁיָּהוּdid notלֹאturnהֵסֵבhis face awayפָנָיוfrom him,מִמֶּנּוּbutכִּיto fightלְהִלָּחֵםagainst himבּוֹhe disguised himself,הִתְחַפֵּשׂand did notוְלֹאlistenשָׁמַעto the wordsאֶל דִּבְרֵיof Necoנְכוֹfrom the mouthמִפִּיof Elohim;אֱלֹהִיםand he cameוַיָּבֹאto fightלְהִלָּחֵםin the valleyבְּבִקְעַתof Megiddo.מְגִדּוֹ
The archersהַיֹּרִיםshotוַיֹּרוּat KingלַמֶּלֶךְJosiah,יֹאשִׁיָּהוּand the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְsaidיֹּאמֶרto his servants,לַעֲבָדָיו“Take me away,הַעֲבִירוּנִיforכִּיI am badly wounded.”הָחֳלֵיתִי מְאֹד
So his servantsעֲבָדָיוtook himוַיַּעֲבִירֻהוּout ofמִןthe chariotהַמֶּרְכָּבָהand put himוַיַּרְכִּיבֻהוּinעַלhis secondהַמִּשְׁנֶה אֲשֶׁר לוֹchariot,רֶכֶבand brought himוַיּוֹלִיכֻהוּto Jerusalem;יְרוּשָׁלִַםand he diedוַיָּמָתand was buriedוַיִּקָּבֵרin the tombsבְּקִבְרוֹתof his fathers.אֲבֹתָיוAnd allוְכָלJudahיְהוּדָהand Jerusalemוִירוּשָׁלִַםmournedמִתְאַבְּלִיםfor Josiah.עַל יֹאשִׁיָּהוּ
Jeremiahיִרְמְיָהוּchanted a dirgeוַיְקוֹנֵןfor Josiah;עַל יֹאשִׁיָּהוּand allוַ כָלthe male singersהַשָּׁרִיםand the female singersוְהַשָּׁרוֹתhave spokenיֹּאמְרוּof Josiahעַל יֹאשִׁיָּהוּin their dirgesבְּקִינוֹתֵיהֶםtoעַדthis day,הַיּוֹםand they made themוַיִּתְּנוּםa statuteלְחֹקfor Israel;עַל יִשְׂרָאֵלand they areוְהִנָּםwrittenכְּתוּבִיםin the Dirges.עַל הַקִּינוֹת
The restוְיֶתֶרof the actsדִּבְרֵיof Josiahיֹאשִׁיָּהוּand his deeds of loyal love,וַחֲסָדָיוaccording to what is writtenכַּכָּתוּבin the lawבְּתוֹרַתof YHWH,יְהוָה
and his acts,וּדְבָרָיוthe firstהָרִאשֹׁנִיםand the last,וְהָאַחֲרֹנִיםthey areהִנָּםwrittenכְּתוּבִיםin the bookעַל סֵפֶרof the kingsמַלְכֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלand Judah.וִיהוּדָה
