He didוַיַּעַשׂwhat was rightהַיָּשָׁרin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWH,יְהוָהand walkedוַיֵּלֶךְin the waysבְּדַרְכֵיof Davidדָּוִידhis father,אָבִיוand did notוְלֹאturn asideסָרto the rightיָמִיןor to the left.וּשְׂמֹאול
In the eighthוּבִשְׁמוֹנֶהyearשָׁנִיםof his reign,לְמָלְכוֹwhile heוְהוּאwas stillעוֹדֶנּוּa youth,נַעַרhe beganהֵחֵלto seekלִדְרוֹשׁthe Elohimלֵאלֹהֵיof Davidדָּוִידhis father;אָבִיוand in the twelfthוּבִשְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵהyearשָׁנָהhe beganהֵחֵלto cleanseלְטַהֵרJudahאֶת יְהוּדָהand Jerusalemוִירוּשָׁלִַםfromמִןthe high places,הַבָּמוֹתthe Asherahs,וְהָאֲשֵׁרִיםthe carved images,וְהַפְּסִלִיםand the molten images.וְהַמַּסֵּכוֹת
They tore downוַיְנַתְּצוּbefore himלְפָנָיוthe altarsאֵת מִזְבְּחוֹתof the Baals,הַבְּעָלִיםand the incense altarsוְהַחַמָּנִיםthatאֲשֶׁרwere highלְמַעְלָהabove themמֵעֲלֵיהֶםhe cut down;גִּדֵּעַand the Asherahs,וְהָאֲשֵׁרִיםthe carved images,וְהַפְּסִלִיםand the molten imagesוְהַמַּסֵּכוֹתhe brokeשִׁבַּרand ground to dust,וְהֵדַקand scattered itוַיִּזְרֹקoverעַל פְּנֵיthe gravesהַקְּבָרִיםof those who had sacrificedהַזֹּבְחִיםto them.לָהֶם
He burnedשָׂרַףthe bonesוְעַצְמוֹתof the priestsכֹּהֲנִיםon their altars,עַל מִזְבְּחוֹתָםand cleansedוַיְטַהֵרJudahאֶת יְהוּדָהand Jerusalem.וְאֶת יְרוּשָׁלִָם
And in the citiesוּבְעָרֵיof Manasseh,מְנַשֶּׁהEphraim,וְאֶפְרַיִםand Simeon,וְשִׁמְעוֹןand as far asוְעַדNaphtali,נַפְתָּלִיin their ruinsבְּחַרְבֹתֵיהֶםall around,סָבִיב
he tore downוַיְנַתֵּץthe altars,אֶת הַמִּזְבְּחוֹתand the Asherahsוְאֶת הָאֲשֵׁרִיםand the carved imagesוְהַפְּסִלִיםhe crushedכִּתַּתto dust,לְהֵדַקand allוְכָלthe incense altarsהַחַמָּנִיםhe cut downגִּדַּעthroughout allבְּכָלthe landאֶרֶץof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵלThen he returnedוַיָּשָׁבto Jerusalem.לִירוּשָׁלִָם

They cameוַיָּבֹאוּtoאֶלHilkiahחִלְקִיָּהוּthe high priestהַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹלand gaveוַיִּתְּנוּthe silverאֶת הַכֶּסֶףthat was broughtהַמּוּבָאinto the houseבֵיתof Elohim,אֱלֹהִיםwhichאֲשֶׁרthe Levites,הַלְוִיִּםthe keepersשֹׁמְרֵיof the threshold,הַסַּףhad gatheredאָסְפוּfrom the handמִיַּדof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהand Ephraimוְאֶפְרַיִםand from allוּמִכֹּלthe remnantשְׁאֵרִיתof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלand from allוּמִכָּלJudahיְהוּדָהand Benjamin,וּבִנְיָמִןand the inhabitantsוַיָּשֻׁבוּof Jerusalem.יְרוּשָׁלִָם
They gave itוַיִּתְּנוּinto the handעַל יַדof those doingעֹשֵׂהthe work,הַמְּלָאכָהthose appointedהַמֻּפְקָדִיםover the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWH;יְהוָהand they gaveוַיִּתְּנוּitאֹתוֹto those doingעוֹשֵׂיthe workהַמְּלָאכָהwhoאֲשֶׁרwere workingעֹשִׂיםin the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWH,יְהוָהto restoreלִבְדּוֹקand repairוּלְחַזֵּקthe house.הַבָּיִת
They gave itוַיִּתְּנוּto the craftsmenלֶחָרָשִׁיםand to the builders,וְלַבֹּנִיםto buyלִקְנוֹתquarriedמַחְצֵבstonesאַבְנֵיand timberוְעֵצִיםfor the clamps,לַמְחַבְּרוֹתand to provide beams forוּלְקָרוֹתthe housesאֶת הַבָּתִּיםthatאֲשֶׁרthe kingsמַלְכֵיof Judahיְהוּדָהhad destroyed.הִשְׁחִיתוּ
The menוְהָאֲנָשִׁיםwere workingעֹשִׂיםwith faithfulnessבֶּאֱמוּנָהin the work.בַּמְּלָאכָהOver themוַעֲלֵיהֶםwere appointedמֻפְקָדִיםJahathיַחַתand Obadiah,וְעֹבַדְיָהוּthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּםofמִןthe sonsבְּנֵיof Merari,מְרָרִיand Zechariahוּזְכַרְיָהand Meshullam,וּמְשֻׁלָּםofמִןthe sonsבְּנֵיof the Kohathites,הַקְּהָתִיםto direct;לְנַצֵּחַand the Levites,וְהַלְוִיִּםallכָּלwho understoodמֵבִיןinstrumentsבִּכְלֵיof song,שִׁיר
were overוְעַלthe carriersהַסַּבָּלִיםand were directingוּמְנַצְּחִיםallלְכֹלwho didעֹשֵׂהworkמְלָאכָהin everyלַעֲבוֹדָה וַservice;עֲבוֹדָהand of the Levitesוּמֵהַלְוִיִּםthere were scribes,סוֹפְרִיםsupervisors,וְשֹׁטְרִיםand gatekeepers.וְשׁוֹעֲרִים
When they were bringing outוּבְהוֹצִיאָםthe silverאֶת הַכֶּסֶףthat had been broughtהַמּוּבָאinto the houseבֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהHilkiahחִלְקִיָּהוּthe priestהַכֹּהֵןfoundמָצָאthe bookאֶת סֵפֶרof the lawתּוֹרַתof YHWHיְהוָהgiven throughבְּיַדMoses.מֹשֶׁה
Hilkiahחִלְקִיָּהוּansweredוַיַּעַןand saidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלShaphanשָׁפָןthe scribe,הַסּוֹפֵר“The bookסֵפֶרof the lawהַתּוֹרָהI have foundמָצָאתִיin the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWH.”יְהוָהAnd Hilkiahוַ חִלְקִיָּהוּgaveיִּתֵּןthe bookאֶת הַסֵּפֶרtoאֶלShaphan.שָׁפָן
Shaphanשָׁפָןbroughtוַיָּבֵאthe bookאֶת הַסֵּפֶרtoאֶלthe king,הַמֶּלֶךְand he furtherוַ עוֹדbrought backיָּשֶׁבto the kingאֶת הַמֶּלֶךְword,דָּבָרsaying,לֵאמֹר“Allכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרwas givenנִתַּןinto the handבְּיַדof your servants,עֲבָדֶיךָtheyהֵםare doing.עֹשִׂים
They have emptied outוַיַּתִּיכוּthe silverאֶת הַכֶּסֶףthat was foundהַנִּמְצָאin the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWH,יְהוָהand have given itוַיִּתְּנוּהוּinto the handעַל יַדof those appointedהַמֻּפְקָדִיםand into the handוְעַל יַדof those doingעוֹשֵׂיthe work.”הַמְּלָאכָה
Shaphanשָׁפָןthe scribeהַסּוֹפֵרtoldוַיַּגֵּדthe king,לַמֶּלֶךְsaying,לֵאמֹר“Hilkiahחִלְקִיָּהוּthe priestהַכֹּהֵןhas givenנָתַןmeלִיa book.”סֵפֶרAnd Shaphanוַ שָׁפָןreadיִּקְרָאin itבוֹbeforeלִפְנֵיthe king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
And it happened,וַיְהִיwhenכִּthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְheardשְׁמֹעַthe wordsאֵת דִּבְרֵיof the law,הַתּוֹרָהthat he toreוַיִּקְרַעhis clothes.אֶת בְּגָדָיו
The kingהַמֶּלֶךְcommandedוַיְצַוHilkiah,אֶת חִלְקִיָּהוּAhikamוְאֶת אֲחִיקָםsonבֶּןof Shaphan,שָׁפָןAbdonוְאֶת עַבְדּוֹןsonבֶּןof Micah,מִיכָהShaphanוְאֵת שָׁפָןthe scribe,הַסּוֹפֵרand Asaiahוְאֵת עֲשָׂיָהthe servantעֶבֶדof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Go,לְכוּconsultדִרְשׁוּ אֶתYHWHיְהוָהfor meבַּעֲדִיand forוּבְעַדthose who are leftהַנִּשְׁאָרin Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלand in Judah,וּבִיהוּדָהaboutעַלthe wordsדִּבְרֵיof the bookהַסֵּפֶרthatאֲשֶׁרhas been found;נִמְצָאforכִּיgreatגְדוֹלָהis the furyחֲמַתof YHWHיְהוָהthatאֲשֶׁרhas been poured outנִתְּכָהon us,בָנוּbecauseעַל אֲשֶׁרour fathersאֲבוֹתֵינוּdid notלֹאkeepשָׁמְרוּthe wordאֶת דְּבַרof YHWH,יְהוָהto doלַעֲשׂוֹתaccording to allכְּכָלthat is writtenהַכָּתוּבin thisעַל הַ הַזֶּהbook.”סֵּפֶר
So Hilkiahוַ חִלְקִיָּהוּand thoseוַאֲשֶׁרof the kingהַמֶּלֶךְwentיֵּלֶךְtoאֶלHuldahחֻלְדָּהthe prophetess,הַנְּבִיאָהthe wifeאֵשֶׁתof Shallumשַׁלֻּםsonבֶּןof Tokhathתָּקְהַתsonבֶּןof Hasrah,חַסְרָהkeeperשׁוֹמֵרof the garments;הַבְּגָדִיםand sheוְהִיאwas livingיוֹשֶׁבֶתin Jerusalemבִּירוּשָׁלִַםin the second quarter;בַּמִּשְׁנֶהand they spokeוַיְדַבְּרוּto herאֵלֶיהָto this effect.כָּזֹאת
She saidוַתֹּאמֶרto them,לָהֶם“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel:יִשְׂרָאֵל‘Tellאִמְרוּthe manלָאִישׁwhoאֲשֶׁרsentשָׁלַחyouאֶתְכֶםto me:אֵלָי
ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהLook,הִנְIנִיam bringingמֵבִיאevilרָעָהuponעַלthisהַזֶּהplaceהַמָּקוֹםand uponוְעַלits inhabitants,יוֹשְׁבָיוallאֵת כָּלthe imprecationsהָאָלוֹתthat are writtenהַכְּתוּבוֹתin the bookעַל הַסֵּפֶרthatאֲשֶׁרthey have readקָרְאוּbeforeלִפְנֵיthe kingמֶלֶךְof Judah;יְהוּדָה
becauseתַּחַת אֲשֶׁרthey have abandoned meעֲזָבוּנִיand have burned incenseוַיְקַטְּרוּto otherאֲחֵרִיםgods,לֵאלֹהִיםso asלְמַעַןto provoke me to angerהַכְעִיסֵנִיwith allבְּכֹלthe worksמַעֲשֵׂיof their hands;יְדֵיהֶםand my furyוְ חֲמָתִיwill be poured outתִתַּךְon thisבַּ הַזֶּהplaceמָּקוֹםand will notוְלֹאbe quenched.’תִכְבֶּה
And toוְאֶלthe kingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהwho sendsהַשֹּׁלֵחַyouאֶתְכֶםto consultלִדְרוֹשׁYHWH,בַּיהוָהthusכֹּהyou shall sayתֹאמְרוּto him:אֵלָיו‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel:יִשְׂרָאֵלAs for the wordsהַדְּבָרִיםthatאֲשֶׁרyou have heard,שָׁמָעְתָּ
becauseיַעַןyour heartלְבָבְךָwas tenderרַךְand you humbled yourselfוַתִּכָּנַעbeforeמִלִּפְנֵיElohimאֱלֹהִיםwhen you heardבְּשָׁמְעֲךָhis wordsאֶת דְּבָרָיוagainstעַלthisהַזֶּהplaceהַמָּקוֹםand againstוְעַלits inhabitants,יֹשְׁבָיוand you humbled yourselfוַתִּכָּנַעbefore me,לְפָנַיand toreוַתִּקְרַעyour clothesאֶת בְּגָדֶיךָand weptוַתֵּבְךְּbefore me,לְפָנָיI alsoוְגַם אֲנִיhave heard,שָׁמַעְתִּיdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָה
Look,הִנְIנִיwill gather youאֹסִפְךָtoאֶלyour fathers,אֲבֹתֶיךָand you will be gatheredוְנֶאֱסַפְתָּtoאֶלyour tombsקִבְרֹתֶיךָin peace,בְּשָׁלוֹםand your eyesעֵינֶיךָwill notוְלֹאseeתִרְאֶינָהallבְּכֹלthe evilהָרָעָהthatאֲשֶׁרIאֲנִיam bringingמֵבִיאuponעַלthisהַזֶּהplaceהַמָּקוֹםand uponוְעַלits inhabitants.’”יֹשְׁבָיוAnd they brought backוַיָּשִׁיבוּto the kingאֶת הַמֶּלֶךְword.דָּבָר

The kingהַמֶּלֶךְwent upוַיַּעַלto the houseבֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהand allוְכָלthe menאִישׁof Judahיְהוּדָהand the inhabitantsוְיֹשְׁבֵיof Jerusalem,יְרוּשָׁלִַםand the priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםand the Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּםand allוְכָלthe people,הָעָםfrom greatמִגָּדוֹלtoוְעַדsmall;קָטָןand he readוַיִּקְרָאin their hearingבְאָזְנֵיהֶםallאֶת כָּלthe wordsדִּבְרֵיof the bookסֵפֶרof the covenantהַבְּרִיתthat was foundהַנִּמְצָאin the houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
The kingהַמֶּלֶךְstoodוַיַּעֲמֹדat his postעַל עָמְדוֹand madeוַיִּכְרֹתthe covenantאֶת הַבְּרִיתbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH,יְהוָהto walkלָלֶכֶתafterאַחֲרֵיYHWHיְהוָהand to keepוְלִשְׁמוֹרhis commandmentsאֶת מִצְוֺתָיוand his testimoniesוְעֵדְוֺתָיוand his statutesוְחֻקָּיוwith allבְּכָלhis heartלְבָבוֹand with allוּבְכָלhis soul,נַפְשׁוֹto doלַעֲשׂוֹתthe wordsאֶת דִּבְרֵיof the covenantהַבְּרִיתthat are writtenהַכְּתוּבִיםin thisעַל הַ הַזֶּהbook.סֵּפֶר
He established in itוַיַּעֲמֵדallאֵת כָּלwho were presentהַנִּמְצָאin Jerusalemבִירוּשָׁלִַםand Benjamin;וּבִנְיָמִןand the inhabitantsוַ יֹשְׁבֵיof Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםdidיַּעֲשׂוּaccording to the covenantכִּבְרִיתof Elohim,אֱלֹהִיםthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof their fathers.אֲבוֹתֵיהֶם
Josiahיֹאשִׁיָּהוּremovedוַיָּסַרallאֶת כָּלthe abominationsהַתּוֹעֵבוֹתfrom allמִכָּלthe landsהָאֲרָצוֹתthatאֲשֶׁרbelonged to the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלand madeוַיַּעֲבֵדallאֵת כָּלwho were presentהַנִּמְצָאin IsraelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלserveלַעֲבוֹדYHWHאֶת יְהוָהtheir Elohim.אֱלֹהֵיהֶםAllכָּלhis daysיָמָיוthey did notלֹאturn awayסָרוּfrom followingמֵאַחֲרֵיYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof their fathers.אֲבוֹתֵיהֶם
