1Then Solomon said, “YHWH has said that he would dwell in the thick cloud. 2And I have built you an exalted house, a place for you to live in forever.” 3The king turned his face and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing. 4He said, “Blessed be YHWH, the Elohim of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David my father, and with his hands has fulfilled it, saying, 5‘Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house for my name to be there, and I have not chosen a man to be leader over my people Israel; 6but I chose Jerusalem for my name to be there, and I chose David to be over my people Israel.’ 7It was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of YHWH, the Elohim of Israel. 8But YHWH said to David my father, ‘Because it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. 9Only you shall not build the house, but your son who will come out of your loins, he shall build the house for my name.’ 10YHWH has confirmed his word that he spoke; I have risen in place of David my father and sat on the throne of Israel, as YHWH spoke, and I have built the house for the name of YHWH, the Elohim of Israel. 11There I have put the ark, in which is the covenant of YHWH that he made with the sons of Israel.”
