But Jehosheba,וַ יְהוֹשֶׁבַעthe daughterבַּתof KingהַמֶּלֶךְJoram,יוֹרָםsisterאֲחוֹתof Ahaziah,אֲחַזְיָהוּtookתִּקַּחJoashיוֹאָשׁsonבֶּןof Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָהand stoleוַתִּגְנֹבhimאֹתוֹfrom amongמִתּוֹךְthe king’sהַמֶּלֶךְsonsבְּנֵיwho were being put to death,הַמּוּמָתִיםhimאֹתוֹand his nurse,וְאֶת מֵינִקְתּוֹand put them in the roomבַּחֲדַרof the beds;הַמִּטּוֹתand they hidוַיַּסְתִּרוּhimאֹתוֹfromמִפְּנֵיAthaliah,עֲתַלְיָהוּand he was notוְלֹאput to death.הוּמָת
He wasוַיְהִיwith herאִתָּהּin the houseבֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהhidden,מִתְחַבֵּאsixשֵׁשׁyears,שָׁנִיםwhile Athaliahוַעֲתַלְיָהwas reigningמֹלֶכֶתoverעַלthe land.הָאָרֶץ
In the seventhוּ הַשְּׁבִיעִיתyearבַשָּׁנָהJehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעsentשָׁלַחand tookוַיִּקַּחthe commandersשָׂרֵיof hundredsהַמֵּאוֹתof the Caritesלַכָּרִיand of the runnersוְלָרָצִיםand broughtוַיָּבֵאthemאֹתָםto himאֵלָיוinto the houseבֵּיתof YHWH;יְהוָהand he madeוַיִּכְרֹתa covenantבְּרִיתwith themלָהֶםand made them swearוַיַּשְׁבַּע אֹתָםin the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWH,יְהוָהand he showedוַיַּרְאthemאֹתָםthe king’sהַמֶּלֶךְson.בֶּן
He commanded them,וַיְצַוֵּםsaying,לֵאמֹר“Thisזֶהis the thingהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרyou are to do:תַּעֲשׂוּןa thirdהַשְּׁלִשִׁיתof you,מִכֶּםthose who come inבָּאֵיon the Sabbath,הַשַּׁבָּתwill be keepingשֹׁמְרֵיwatchמִשְׁמֶרֶתover the houseבֵּיתof the king;הַמֶּלֶךְ
a thirdוְהַשְּׁלִשִׁיתwill be at the gateבְּשַׁעַרSur;סוּרand a thirdוְהַשְּׁלִשִׁיתat the gateבַּשַּׁעַרbehindאַחַרthe runners;הָרָצִיםand you will keepוּשְׁמַרְתֶּםwatchמִשְׁמֶרֶתover the houseהַבַּיִתin turns.מַסָּח
And the twoוּשְׁתֵּיdivisionsהַיָּדוֹתof you,בָּכֶםallכֹּלwho go outיֹצְאֵיon the Sabbath,הַשַּׁבָּתwill keepוְשָׁמְרוּwatchמִשְׁמֶרֶתover the houseבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהforאֶלthe king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
You will surroundוְהִקַּפְתֶּםthe kingעַל הַמֶּלֶךְall around,סָבִיבeach manאִישׁwith his weaponsוְכֵלָיוin his hand;בְּיָדוֹand whoever comesוְהַבָּאintoאֶלthe ranksהַשְּׂדֵרוֹתis to be put to death.יוּמָתBeוִהְיוּwithאֶתthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְwhen he goes outבְּצֵאתוֹand when he comes in.”וּבְבֹאוֹ
The commandersשָׂרֵיof hundredsהַמֵּאוֹתdidוַיַּעֲשׂוּaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרJehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעthe priestהַכֹּהֵןcommanded;צִוָּהeachאִישׁtookוַיִּקְחוּhis men,אֲנָשָׁיוthose who were coming inבָּאֵיon the Sabbathהַשַּׁבָּתwithעִםthose who were going outיֹצְאֵיon the Sabbath,הַשַּׁבָּתand they cameוַיָּבֹאוּtoאֶלJehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעthe priest.הַכֹּהֵן
The priestהַכֹּהֵןgaveוַיִּתֵּןthe commandersלְשָׂרֵיof hundredsהַמֵּאוֹתthe spearsהַחֲנִיתand the shieldsוְאֶת הַשְּׁלָטִיםthatאֲשֶׁרhad belonged to KingלַמֶּלֶךְDavid,דָּוִדwhichאֲשֶׁרwere in the houseבְּבֵיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
The runnersהָרָצִיםstood,וַיַּעַמְדוּeach manאִישׁwith his weaponsוְכֵלָיוin his hand,בְּיָדוֹfrom the rightהַיְמָנִיתsideמִכֶּתֶףof the houseהַבַּיִתtoעַדthe leftהַשְּׂמָאלִיתsideכֶּתֶףof the house,הַבַּיִתby the altarלַמִּזְבֵּחַand by the house,וְלַבָּיִתaroundעַל סָבִיבthe king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
He brought outוַיּוֹצִאthe king’sהַמֶּלֶךְsonבֶּןand putוַיִּתֵּןon himעָלָיוthe crownהַנֵּזֶרand the testimony;וְאֶת הָעֵדוּתand they made him kingוַיַּמְלִכוּ אֹתוֹand anointed him,וַיִּמְשָׁחֻהוּand they clappedוַיַּכּוּtheir handsכָףand said,וַיֹּאמְרוּ“Long liveיְחִיthe king!”הַמֶּלֶךְ
Athaliahעֲתַלְיָהheardוַתִּשְׁמַעthe noiseקוֹלof the runnersהָרָצִיןand the people,הָעָםand she cameוַתָּבֹאtoאֶלthe peopleהָעָםin the houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
She looked,וַתֵּרֶאand there wasוְהִנֵּהthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְstandingעֹמֵדbyעַלthe pillar,הָעַמּוּדaccording to the custom,כַּמִּשְׁפָּטand the commandersוְהַשָּׂרִיםand the trumpetsוְהַחֲצֹצְרוֹתbesideאֶלthe king,הַמֶּלֶךְand allוְכָלthe peopleעַםof the landהָאָרֶץrejoicingשָׂמֵחַand blowingוְתֹקֵעַthe trumpets.בַּחֲצֹצְרוֹתAthaliahעֲתַלְיָהtoreוַתִּקְרַעher clothesבְּגָדֶיהָand cried out,וַתִּקְרָא“Conspiracy!קֶשֶׁרConspiracy!”קָשֶׁר
Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעthe priestהַכֹּהֵןcommandedוַיְצַוthe commandersשָׂרֵיof hundreds,הַמֵּאוֹתthose appointedפְּקֻדֵיover the army,הַחַיִלand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵיהֶם“Bring her outהוֹצִיאוּ אֹתָהּbetweenאֶל מִבֵּיתthe ranks,לַשְּׂדֵרֹתand whoever comesוְהַבָּאafter her,אַחֲרֶיהָput to deathהָמֵתwith the sword.”בֶּחָרֶבForכִּיthe priestהַכֹּהֵןhad said,אָמַר“Let her notאַלbe put to deathתּוּמַתin the houseבֵּיתof YHWH.”יְהוָה
They laidוַיָּשִׂמוּhandsיָדַיִםon her,לָהּand she wentוַתָּבוֹאby the wayדֶּרֶךְof the entranceמְבוֹאof the horsesהַסּוּסִיםto the houseבֵּיתof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְand thereוַ שָׁםshe was put to death.תּוּמַת
Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָעmadeוַיִּכְרֹתthe covenantהַבְּרִיתbetweenבֵּיןYHWHיְהוָהandוּבֵיןthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְandוּבֵיןthe people,הָעָםthat they should beלִהְיוֹתa peopleלְעָםfor YHWH;לַיהוָהand betweenוּבֵיןthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְandוּבֵיןthe people.הָעָם
Allכָלthe peopleעַםof the landהָאָרֶץwentוַיָּבֹאוּto the houseבֵּיתof Baalהַבַּעַלand tore it down;וַיִּתְּצֻהוּits altarsאֶת מִזְבְּחֹתָיוand its imagesוְאֶת צְלָמָיוthey smashedשִׁבְּרוּthoroughly,הֵיטֵבand Mattan,וְאֵת מַתָּןthe priestכֹּהֵןof Baal,הַבַּעַלthey killedהָרְגוּbeforeלִפְנֵיthe altars.הַמִּזְבְּחוֹתAnd the priestוַ הַכֹּהֵןsetיָּשֶׂםguardsפְּקֻדּוֹתoverעַלthe houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
He tookוַיִּקַּחthe commandersשָׂרֵיof hundreds,הַמֵּאוֹתand the Carites,וְאֶת הַכָּרִיand the runners,וְאֶת הָרָצִיםand allוְאֵת כָּלthe peopleעַםof the land,הָאָרֶץand they brought downוַיֹּרִידוּthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְfrom the houseמִבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהand cameוַיָּבוֹאוּby the wayדֶּרֶךof the gateשַׁעַרof the runnersהָרָצִיםto the houseבֵּיתof the king;הַמֶּלֶךְand he satוַיֵּשֶׁבonעַלthe throneכִּסֵּאof the kings.הַמְּלָכִים
Allכָּלthe peopleעַםof the landהָאָרֶץrejoiced,וַיִּשְׂמַחand the cityוְהָעִירwas quiet;שָׁקָטָהand Athaliahוְ עֲתַלְיָהוּthey had put to deathהֵמִיתוּwith the swordבַחֶרֶבat the houseבֵּיתof the king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
