2 Kings 8:16-24

16In year five of Joram son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being king of Judah, Joram son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, began to reign. 17He was thirty two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 18He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for the daughter of Ahab was his wife; and he did what was evil in the eyes of YHWH. 19But YHWH was not willing to destroy Judah, for the sake of David his servant, as he had said to him that he would give him a lamp for his sons all the days. 20In his days Edom rebelled from under the hand of Judah and made a king over themselves. 21Joram crossed over to Zair, and all the chariots with him; and it happened that he rose by night and struck Edom, which surrounded him, and the commanders of the chariots; and the people fled to their tents. 22So Edom rebelled from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah rebelled at that time. 23The rest of the acts of Joram and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 24Joram lay down with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.

2 Chronicles 21:1-20

1Jehoshaphat lay down with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Joram his son reigned in his place. 2He had brothers, sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel. 3Their father gave them many gifts of silver and of gold and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah; but the kingdom he gave to Joram, because he was the firstborn. 4Joram rose up over the kingdom of his father and made himself strong, and killed all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the officials of Israel. 5Joram was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 6He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for the daughter of Ahab was his wife; and he did what was evil in the eyes of YHWH. 7But YHWH was not willing to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he had said that he would give him a lamp, and to his sons, all the days. 8In his days Edom rebelled from under the hand of Judah and made a king over themselves. 9Joram crossed over with his commanders, and all the chariots with him; and it happened that he rose by night and struck Edom, which surrounded him, and the commanders of the chariots. 10So Edom rebelled from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah rebelled at that time from under his hand, because he had abandoned YHWH, Elohim of his fathers. 11He also made high places in the mountains of Judah, and made the inhabitants of Jerusalem prostitute themselves, and dragged Judah away. 12A writing came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, “Thus says YHWH, Elohim of David your father: ‘Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father or in the ways of Asa king of Judah, 13but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem prostitute themselves, as the house of Ahab made them prostitute themselves, and also have killed your brothers, your father’s house, who were better than you, 14look, YHWH is going to strike with a great plague your people, your sons, your wives, and all your goods; 15and you will have many diseases, a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the disease, day after day.’” 16YHWH stirred up against Joram the spirit of the Philistines and the Arabs who are beside the Cushites. 17They came up against Judah, broke into it, and carried away captive all the goods that were found in the house of the king, and also his sons and his wives; and there was not left to him a son except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons. 18After all this YHWH struck him in his bowels with a disease for which there was no cure. 19And it happened, as days passed, and at the time of the coming of the end of two years, his bowels came out with his disease, and he died in evil ailments. His people did not make for him a burning like the burning of his fathers. 20He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. He departed with no one desiring him; and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
