John 6:1-15

1After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, the Sea of Tiberias. 2And a large crowd was following him, because they were seeing the signs that he was doing on the sick. 3And Jesus went up onto the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. 4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near. 5So when Jesus lifted up his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming toward him, he says to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread so that these people may eat?” 6But he was saying this to test him, for he himself knew what he was going to do. 7Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii’ worth of bread is not enough for them, for each to get a little.” 8One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, says to him, 9“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are these for so many?” 10Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. 11So Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, he distributed them to those who were reclining; likewise also of the fish, as much as they wanted. 12And when they were filled, he says to his disciples, “Gather up the pieces left over, so that nothing may be lost.” 13So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with pieces from the five barley loaves that were left over by those who had eaten. 14So when the people saw the sign that he had done, they were saying, “This is truly the Prophet who is coming into the world!” 15So Jesus, knowing that they were about to come and seize him to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself alone.

Matthew 14:13-21

13Hearing this, Jesus withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself; and when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. 14And going ashore, he saw a large crowd, and he was moved with compassion for them and healed their sick. 15When evening came, the disciples came to him, saying, “The place is deserted, and the hour has already passed; send the crowds away, so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16But Jesus said to them, “They have no need to go away; you give them something to eat.” 17And they say to him, “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fish.” 18And he said, “Bring them here to me.” 19And ordering the crowds to sit down on the grass, taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed; and breaking them, he gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20And all ate and were satisfied; and they picked up what was left over of the pieces, twelve baskets full. 21And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Mark 6:30-44

30And the apostles gather around Jesus and reported to him all that they had done and all that they had taught. 31And he says to them, “You yourselves come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a little.” For those who were coming and going were many, and they did not even have the chance to eat. 32And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. 33And people saw them going, and many recognized them, and they ran there together on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. 34And going ashore, he saw a large crowd, and he was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. 35And when it was already late, his disciples came to him and were saying, “This place is deserted, and it is already late; 36send them away, so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” 37But he answered and said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they say to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii’ worth of bread and give them it to eat?” 38But he says to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go, see.” And when they found out, they say, “Five, and two fish.” 39And he commanded them to have all recline in groups on the green grass. 40And they sat down in rows, by hundreds and by fifties. 41And taking the five loaves and the two fish, looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves and kept giving them to his disciples to set before them, and he divided the two fish among all. 42And they all ate and were filled. 43And they picked up broken pieces, twelve baskets full, and of the fish. 44And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.

Luke 9:10-17

10And when the apostles returned, they described to him all that they had done. And taking them along, he withdrew privately to a city called Bethsaida. 11But the crowds, learning of it, followed him; and welcoming them, he was speaking to them about the kingdom of God, and those who had need of healing he was healing. 12Now the day began to decline, and the Twelve came and said to him, “Send away the crowd, so that going into the surrounding villages and farms, they may find lodging and find provisions; because here we are in a deserted place.” 13But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people.” 14For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, “Make them recline in groups of about fifty each.” 15And they did so, and made everyone recline. 16And taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he blessed them and broke them, and he kept giving them to the disciples to set before the crowd. 17And they ate and were all satisfied, and what was left over by them was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.
