Ifאִםyou do notלֹאlisten,תִשְׁמְעוּand ifוְאִםyou do notלֹאlay itתָשִׂימוּtoעַלheart,לֵבto giveלָתֵתgloryכָּבוֹדto my name,לִשְׁמִיsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתI will sendוְשִׁלַּחְתִּיagainst youבָכֶםthe curse,הַמְּאֵרָהand I will curseוְאָרוֹתִיyour blessings;בִּרְכוֹתֵיכֶםand indeedוְגַםI have cursed them,אָרוֹתִיהָbecauseכִּיyou are notאֵינְכֶםlaying itשָׂמִיםtoעַלheart.לֵב
Look,הִנְIנִיam rebukingגֹעֵרthe seedהַזֶּרַעbecause of you,לָכֶםand I will scatterוְזֵרִיתִיdungפֶרֶשׁonעַלyour faces,פְּנֵיכֶםthe dungפֶּרֶשׁof your feasts;חַגֵּיכֶםand one will carryוְנָשָׂאyouאֶתְכֶםto it.אֵלָיו
And you will knowוִידַעְתֶּםthatכִּיI have sentשִׁלַּחְתִּיto youאֲלֵיכֶםthisהַזֹּאתcommandment,הַמִּצְוָהso that my covenantבְּרִיתִיwithאֶתLeviלֵוִיmay continue,לִהְיוֹתsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
My covenantבְּרִיתִיwasהָיְתָהwith him,אִתּוֹlifeהַחַיִּיםand peace,וְהַשָּׁלוֹםand I gave themוָאֶתְּנֵםto him,לוֹand with them fear;מוֹרָאand he feared meוַיִּירָאֵנִיand beforeוּמִפְּנֵיmy nameשְׁמִיheהוּאstood in awe.נִחַת
Instructionתּוֹרַתof truthאֱמֶתwasהָיְתָהin his mouth,בְּפִיהוּand injusticeוְעַוְלָהwas notלֹאfoundנִמְצָאon his lips;בִשְׂפָתָיוin peaceבְּשָׁלוֹםand in uprightnessוּבְמִישׁוֹרhe walkedהָלַךְwith me,אִתִּיand manyוְרַבִּיםhe turned backהֵשִׁיבfrom iniquity.מֵעָוֺן
Forכִּיthe lipsשִׂפְתֵיof a priestכֹהֵןguardיִשְׁמְרוּknowledge,דַעַתand instructionוְתוֹרָהthey will seekיְבַקְשׁוּfrom his mouth;מִפִּיהוּforכִּיheהוּאis the messengerמַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
But youוְאַתֶּםhave turned asideסַרְתֶּםfromמִןthe way;הַדֶּרֶךְyou have made many stumbleהִכְשַׁלְתֶּם רַבִּיםin the instruction;בַּתּוֹרָהyou have destroyedשִׁחַתֶּםthe covenantבְּרִיתof Levi,הַלֵּוִיsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
And Iוְ אֲנִיalsoגַםhave madeנָתַתִּיyouאֶתְכֶםdespisedנִבְזִיםand lowוּשְׁפָלִיםbefore allלְכָלthe people,הָעָםinasmuch asכְּפִי אֲשֶׁרyou are notאֵינְכֶםkeepingשֹׁמְרִיםmy waysדְּרָכַיbut are liftingוְנֹשְׂאִיםthe faceפָּנִיםin the instruction.בַּתּוֹרָה
Is there notהֲלוֹאoneאֶחָדfatherאָבfor all of us?לְכֻלָּנוּHas notהֲלוֹאoneאֶחָדElאֵלcreated us?בְּרָאָנוּWhyמַדּוּעַdo we betray,נִבְגַּדeachאִישׁhis brother,בְּאָחִיוprofaningלְחַלֵּלthe covenantבְּרִיתof our fathers?אֲבֹתֵינוּ
Judahיְהוּדָהhas betrayed,בָּגְדָהand an abominationוְתוֹעֵבָהhas been committedנֶעֶשְׂתָהin Israelבְיִשְׂרָאֵלand in Jerusalem;וּבִירוּשָׁלִָםforכִּיJudahיְהוּדָהhas profanedחִלֵּלwhat is holyקֹדֶשׁto YHWH,יְהוָהwhichאֲשֶׁרhe loves,אָהֵבand has marriedוּבָעַלthe daughterבַּתof a foreignנֵכָרgod.אֵל
May YHWHיְהוָהcut offיַכְרֵתthe manלָאִישׁwhoאֲשֶׁרdoes it,יַעֲשֶׂנָּהthe one who wakesעֵרand the one who answers,וְעֹנֶהfrom the tentsמֵאָהֳלֵיof Jacob,יַעֲקֹבand the one who offersוּמַגִּישׁan offeringמִנְחָהto YHWHלַיהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
And thisוְזֹאתa second thingשֵׁנִיתyou do:תַּעֲשׂוּcoverכַּסּוֹתthe altarמִזְבַּחof YHWHיְהוָהwith tears,דִּמְעָהwith weepingבְּכִיand groaning,וַאֲנָקָהbecause he no longerמֵאֵין עוֹדturnsפְּנוֹתtoאֶלthe offeringהַמִּנְחָהor takes itוְלָקַחַתwith favorרָצוֹןfrom your hand.מִיֶּדְכֶם
And you say,וַאֲמַרְתֶּם“Why?”עַל מָהBecauseעַל כִּיYHWHיְהוָהhas been witnessהֵעִידbetween youבֵּינְךָandוּבֵיןthe wifeאֵשֶׁתof your youth,נְעוּרֶיךָwhomאֲשֶׁרyouאַתָּהhave betrayed,בָּגַדְתָּה בָּהּthough sheוְהִיאis your companionחֲבֶרְתְּךָand the wifeוְאֵשֶׁתof your covenant.בְּרִיתֶךָ
And did he notוְלֹאmakeעָשָׂהone,אֶחָדand a remnantוּשְׁאָרof spiritרוּחַis his?לוֹAnd whatוּמָהof the one?הָאֶחָדHe was seekingמְבַקֵּשׁoffspringזֶרַעof Elohim.אֱלֹהִיםSo guard yourselvesוְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּםin your spirit,בְּרוּחֲכֶםand do notאַלlet anyone betrayיִבְגֹּדthe wifeוּבְאֵשֶׁתof your youth.נְעוּרֶיךָ
Forכִּיhe hatesשָׂנֵאdivorce,שַׁלַּחsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָהElohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלand the one who coversוְכִסָּהhis garmentעַל לְבוּשׁוֹwith violence,חָמָסsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹתSo guard yourselvesוְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּםin your spirit,בְּרוּחֲכֶםand do notוְלֹאbetray.תִבְגֹּדוּ
You have weariedהוֹגַעְתֶּםYHWHיְהוָהwith your words.בְּדִבְרֵיכֶםAnd you say,וַאֲמַרְתֶּם“Howבַּמָּהhave we wearied him?”הוֹגָעְנוּIn that you say,בֶּאֱמָרְכֶם“Everyoneכָּלwho doesעֹשֵׂהevilרָעis goodטוֹבin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWH,יְהוָהand in themוּבָהֶםheהוּאdelights”;חָפֵץor,אוֹ“Whereאַיֵּהis the Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof judgment?”הַמִּשְׁפָּט
