Look,הִנְIנִיam sendingשֹׁלֵחַmy messenger,מַלְאָכִיand he will clearוּפִנָּהthe wayדֶרֶךְbefore me;לְפָנָיand suddenlyוּפִתְאֹםthe Lordהָאָדוֹןwhomאֲשֶׁרyouאַתֶּםseekמְבַקְשִׁיםwill comeיָבוֹאtoאֶלhis temple,הֵיכָלוֹand the messengerוּמַלְאַךְof the covenant,הַבְּרִיתin whomאֲשֶׁרyouאַתֶּםdelight.חֲפֵצִיםLook,הִנֵּהhe is coming,בָאsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
And whoוּמִיcan endureמְכַלְכֵּלthe dayיוֹםof his coming?בּוֹאוֹAnd whoוּמִיcan standהָעֹמֵדwhen he appears?בְּהֵרָאוֹתוֹForכִּיheהוּאis like the fireכְּאֵשׁof a refinerמְצָרֵףand like the lyeוּכְבֹרִיתof launderers.מְכַבְּסִים
And he will sitוְיָשַׁבas a refinerמְצָרֵףand purifierוּמְטַהֵרof silver;כֶּסֶףand he will purifyוְטִהַרthe sonsבְּנֵיof Leviלֵוִיand purgeוְזִקַּקthemאֹתָםlike goldכַּזָּהָבand like silver,וְכַכָּסֶףand they will beוְהָיוּfor YHWHלַיהוָהthose who offerמַגִּישֵׁיan offeringמִנְחָהin righteousness.בִּצְדָקָה
Andוְthe offeringמִנְחַתof Judahיְהוּדָהand Jerusalemוִירוּשָׁלִָםwill be pleasingעָרְבָהto YHWHלַיהוָהas in the daysכִּימֵיof oldעוֹלָםand as in formerוּכְ קַדְמֹנִיּוֹתyears.שָׁנִים
And I will draw nearוְקָרַבְתִּיto youאֲלֵיכֶםfor judgment,לַמִּשְׁפָּטand I will beוְהָיִיתִיa swiftמְמַהֵרwitnessעֵדagainst the sorcerersבַּמְכַשְּׁפִיםand against the adulterersוּבַמְנָאֲפִיםand against those who swearוּבַנִּשְׁבָּעִיםfalsely,לַשָּׁקֶרand against those who exploitוּבְעֹשְׁקֵיthe wagesשְׂכַרof the hired worker,שָׂכִירthe widowאַלְמָנָהand the orphan,וְיָתוֹםand against those who turn aside the right ofוּמַטֵּיthe resident alien,גֵרand do notוְלֹאfear me,יְרֵאוּנִיsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
ForכִּיI,אֲנִיYHWH,יְהוָהdo notלֹאchange;שָׁנִיתִיand you,וְאַתֶּםsonsבְּנֵיof Jacob,יַעֲקֹבhave notלֹאcome to an end.כְלִיתֶם
From the daysלְמִימֵיof your fathersאֲבֹתֵיכֶםyou have turned asideסַרְתֶּםfrom my statutesמֵחֻקַּיand have notוְלֹאkept them.שְׁמַרְתֶּםReturnשׁוּבוּto me,אֵלַיand I will returnוְאָשׁוּבָהto you,אֲלֵיכֶםsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹתAnd you say,וַאֲמַרְתֶּם“Howבַּמֶּהshall we return?”נָשׁוּב
Will a human beingהֲ אָדָםrobיִקְבַּעElohim?אֱלֹהִיםYetכִּיyouאַתֶּםare robbingקֹבְעִיםme.אֹתִיAnd you say,וַאֲמַרְתֶּם“Howבַּמֶּהhave we robbed you?”קְבַעֲנוּךָIn the titheהַמַּעֲשֵׂרand the contribution.וְהַתְּרוּמָה
With a curseבַּמְּאֵרָהyouאַתֶּםare cursed,נֵאָרִיםand meוְאֹתִיyouאַתֶּםare robbing,קֹבְעִיםthe wholeכֻּלּוֹnation.הַגּוֹי
Bringהָבִיאוּthe wholeכָּלtitheהַמַּעֲשֵׂרintoאֶלthe storehouse,בֵּית הָאוֹצָרthat there may beוִיהִיfoodטֶרֶףin my house;בְּבֵיתִיand test me,וּבְחָנוּנִיplease,נָאin this,בָּזֹאתsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתifאִםI will notלֹאopenאֶפְתַּחfor youלָכֶםthe floodgatesאֲרֻבּוֹתof the heavensהַשָּׁמַיִםand pour outוַהֲרִיקֹתִיon youלָכֶםblessingבְּרָכָהuntilעַדthere is noבְּלִיmore need.דָי
And I will rebukeוְגָעַרְתִּיthe devourerבָּאֹכֵלfor you,לָכֶםand it will notוְלֹאdestroyיַשְׁחִתfor youלָכֶםthe fruitפְּרִיof the ground,הָאֲדָמָהand the vineהַגֶּפֶןin the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶהwill notוְלֹאbe barrenתְשַׁכֵּלfor you,לָכֶםsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
And allוְ כָּלthe nationsהַגּוֹיִםwill call you happy,אִשְּׁרוּ אֶתְכֶםforכִּיyouאַתֶּםwill beתִהְיוּa landאֶרֶץof delight,חֵפֶץsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot.צְבָאוֹת
Your wordsדִּבְרֵיכֶםhave been strongחָזְקוּagainst me,עָלַיsaysאָמַרYHWH.יְהוָהAnd you say,וַאֲמַרְתֶּם“Whatמַהhave we spoken togetherנִּדְבַּרְנוּagainst you?”עָלֶיךָ
You have said,אֲמַרְתֶּם“It is vainשָׁוְאto serveעֲבֹדElohim;אֱלֹהִיםand whatוּמַהprofit is thereבֶּצַעthatכִּיwe have keptשָׁמַרְנוּhis charge,מִשְׁמַרְתּוֹand thatוְכִיwe have walkedהָלַכְנוּas mournersקְדֹרַנִּיתbeforeמִפְּנֵיYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot?צְבָאוֹת
And nowוְעַתָּהweאֲנַחְנוּcall happyמְאַשְּׁרִיםthe insolent;זֵדִיםalsoגַּםthose who doעֹשֵׂיwickednessרִשְׁעָהare built up;נִבְנוּalsoגַּםthey testבָּחֲנוּElohimאֱלֹהִיםand escape.”וַיִּמָּלֵטוּ
Thenאָזthose who fearיִרְאֵיYHWHיְהוָהspokeנִדְבְּרוּeachאִישׁwith his neighbor;אֶת רֵעֵהוּand YHWHוַ יְהוָהpaid attentionיַּקְשֵׁבand heard,וַיִּשְׁמָעand a bookסֵפֶרof memorialזִכָּרוֹןwas writtenוַיִּכָּתֵבbefore himלְפָנָיוfor those who fearלְיִרְאֵיYHWHיְהוָהand for those who thinkוּלְחֹשְׁבֵיon his name.שְׁמוֹ
And they will beוְהָיוּmine,לִיsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתfor the dayלַיּוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרIאֲנִיam making,עֹשֶׂהa special treasure;סְגֻלָּהand I will have compassionוְחָמַלְתִּיon themעֲלֵיהֶםasכַּאֲשֶׁרa manאִישׁhas compassionיַחְמֹלonעַלhis sonבְּנוֹwho servesהָעֹבֵדhim.אֹתוֹ
And you will againוְשַׁבְתֶּםseeוּרְאִיתֶםthe difference betweenבֵּיןthe righteousצַדִּיקand the wicked,לְרָשָׁעbetweenבֵּיןone who servesעֹבֵדElohimאֱלֹהִיםand one whoלַאֲשֶׁרdoes notלֹאserve him.עֲבָדוֹ
