Malachi 3:6, word by word
- YHWHיְהוָהyehva
YHWH
The personal name of the God of Israel, written in Hebrew with four letters, Y-H-W-H, without vowels. Out of reverence Jews stopped pronouncing it and read "Adonai" (Lord), so many Bibles put "the LORD" or "Jehovah". This translation keeps the four letters. The name is related to the verb "to be" (Exodus 3:14-15). He is not a god other than Elohim: "YHWH Elohim" is the same Creator God, called by his name.

The context
5And I will draw near to you for judgment, and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against those who swear falsely, and against those who exploit the wages of the hired worker, the widow and the orphan, and against those who turn aside the right of the resident alien, and do not fear me, says YHWH Tsevaot.
6 · This verse (above)
7From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says YHWH Tsevaot. And you say, “How shall we return?”
