2 Peter 3:3–4
Peter foresees mockers asking where the promise of his coming is
Study it word by word3knowing this first, that in the last days scoffers will come with scoffing, walking according to their own desires
4and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.
In its context
1Beloved, this is now the second letter I am writing to you; in both of which I stir up your sincere mind by way of reminder,
2to remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of your apostles from the Lord and Savior,
…
5For they deliberately overlook this, that heavens existed long ago and an earth formed out of water and through water by the word of God,
6through which the world of that time, flooded with water, perished.
