knowingγινώσκοντεςthisτοῦτοfirst,πρῶτονthatὅτιinἐπ’the lastἐσχάτωνdaysτῶν ἡμερῶνscoffersἐμπαῖκταιwill comeἐλεύσονταιwithἐνscoffing,ἐμπαιγμονῇwalkingπορευόμενοιaccording toκατὰtheir ownτὰς ἰδίας αὐτῶνdesiresἐπιθυμίας
andκαὶsaying,λέγοντεςWhereΠοῦisἐστινthe promiseἡ ἐπαγγελίαof his coming?τῆς παρουσίας αὐτοῦForγὰρsinceἀφ’ ἧςthe fathersοἱ πατέρεςfell asleep,ἐκοιμήθησανall thingsπάνταcontinueδιαμένειasοὕτωςthey werefromἀπ’the beginningἀρχῆςof creation.κτίσεως
Forγὰρtheyαὐτοὺςdeliberatelyθέλονταςoverlookλανθάνειthis,τοῦτοthatὅτιheavensοὐρανοὶexistedἦσανlong agoἔκπαλαιandκαὶan earthγῆformedσυνεστῶσαout ofἐξwaterὕδατοςandκαὶthroughδι’waterὕδατοςbyτῷthe wordτοῦ λόγῳof God,θεοῦ
throughδι’whichὧνthe worldὁ κόσμοςof that time,τότεfloodedκατακλυσθεὶςwith water,ὕδατιperished.ἀπώλετο
Butδὲthe presentνῦνheavensοἱ οὐρανοὶandκαὶearthἡ γῆby the sameτῷ αὐτῷwordλόγῳhave been stored upτεθησαυρισμένοι εἰσὶνfor fire,πυρὶbeing keptτηρούμενοιforεἰςthe dayἡμέρανof judgmentκρίσεωςandκαὶdestructionἀπωλείαςof ungodlyτῶν ἀσεβῶνpeople.ἀνθρώπων
Butδὲdo notμὴletλανθανέτωthisτοῦτοone thingἛνescapeλανθανέτωyou,ὑμᾶςbeloved,ἀγαπητοίthatὅτιoneμίαdayἡμέραwithπαρὰthe Lordκυρίῳislikeὡςa thousandχίλιαyears,ἔτηandκαὶa thousandχίλιαyearsἔτηlikeὡςoneμίαday.ἡμέρα
The Lordκύριοςis notοὐslowβραδύνειabout the promise,τῆς ἐπαγγελίαςasὥςsomeτινεςcountἡγοῦνταιslowness,βραδύτηταbutἀλλὰis patientμακροθυμεῖtowardεἰςyou,ὑμᾶςnotμὴwantingβουλόμενόςanyτιναςto perish,ἀπολέσθαιbutἀλλὰallπάνταςto comeχωρῆσαιtoεἰςa change of mind.μετάνοιαν
Butδὲthe dayἡμέραof the Lordκυρίουwill comeἥξειlikeὡςa thief,κλέπτηςinἐνwhichᾗthe heavensοἱ οὐρανοὶwill pass awayπαρελεύσονταιwith a roar,ῥοιζηδὸνandδὲthe elements,στοιχεῖαburning,καυσούμεναwill be dissolved,λυθήσεταιandκαὶthe earthγῆandκαὶthe worksτὰ ἔργαinἐνitαὐτῇwill be laid bare.εὑρεθήσεται
Since all these thingsΤούτων πάντωνare thusοὕτωςto be dissolved,λυομένωνwhat sort of peopleποταποὺςoughtδεῖyouὑμᾶςto beὑπάρχεινinἐνholyἁγίαιςconductἀναστροφαῖςandκαὶgodliness,εὐσεβείαις
waiting forπροσδοκῶνταςandκαὶhasteningσπεύδονταςthe comingτὴν παρουσίανof the dayτῆς ἡμέραςof God,τοῦ θεοῦbecause ofδι’whichἣνthe heavens,οὐρανοὶset on fire,πυρούμενοιwill be dissolved,λυθήσονταιandκαὶthe elements,στοιχεῖαburning,καυσούμεναwill melt?τήκεται
Butδὲaccording toκατὰhis promiseτὸ ἐπάγγελμα αὐτοῦwe wait forπροσδοκῶμενnewκαινοὺςheavensοὐρανοὺςandκαὶa newκαινὴνearth,γῆνinἐνwhichοἷςrighteousnessδικαιοσύνηdwells.κατοικεῖ
Therefore,Διόbeloved,ἀγαπητοίsince you wait forπροσδοκῶντεςthese things,ταῦταbe eagerσπουδάσατεto be foundεὑρεθῆναιby himαὐτῷunstainedἄσπιλοιandκαὶwithout defect,ἀμώμητοιinἐνpeace.εἰρήνῃ

asὡςhe does alsoκαὶinἐνallπάσαιςhis letters,ταῖς ἐπιστολαῖςspeakingλαλῶνinἐνthemαὐταῖςaboutπερὶthese things,τούτωνinἐνwhichαἷςthere areἐστινsome thingsτιναhard to understand,δυσνόητάwhichἃthe ignorantοἱ ἀμαθεῖςandκαὶunsteadyἀστήρικτοιtwist,στρεβλοῦσινasὡςthey do alsoκαὶthe otherτὰς λοιπὰςScriptures,γραφὰςtoπρὸςtheir ownτὴν ἰδίαν αὐτῶνdestruction.ἀπώλειαν
Youὑμεῖςthen,οὖνbeloved,ἀγαπητοίknowing this beforehand,προγινώσκοντεςbe on your guardφυλάσσεσθεso thatἵναyou are notμὴcarried awayσυναπαχθέντεςby the errorτῇ πλάνῃof the lawlessτῶν ἀθέσμωνand loseἐκπέσητεyour ownτοῦ ἰδίουfirm footing.στηριγμοῦ
