Hebrews 11:8–10
Abraham set out without knowing where he was going
Study it word by word8By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place that he was going to receive as an inheritance; and he went out not knowing where he was going.
9By faith he lived as a resident alien in the land of the promise as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise;
10for he was waiting for the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
In its context
6And without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who draws near to God must believe that he exists and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.
7By faith Noah, having been warned about things not yet seen, in reverence built an ark for the salvation of his house; through which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
…
11By faith he also received power to beget, together with Sarah herself, even beyond the time of their age, since he considered faithful the one who had promised.
12Therefore also from one man, and that a man as good as dead, there were born descendants as the stars of heaven in number, and as the countless sand by the shore of the sea.
