Hebrews 12:1–4
Throw off what entangles and run with your eyes on Jesus
Study it word by word1Therefore, since we also have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
2looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him endured a cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3For consider the one who endured such opposition from sinners against themselves, so that you do not grow weary and lose heart in your souls.
4You have not yet resisted to the point of blood in struggling against sin;
In its context
…
5and you have forgotten the encouragement that addresses you as sons: My son, do not think lightly of the discipline of the Lord, nor lose heart when you are rebuked by him;
6for the Lord disciplines the one whom he loves, and he flogs every son whom he receives.
