Those who receive Jesus are given the right to become God's children
Study it word by word12But to all who received him, he gave them the right to become children of God, to those who believe in his name,
13who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.
In its context
10He was in the world, and the world came into being through him, and the world did not know him.
11He came to what was his own, and his own people did not receive him.
…
14And the Word became flesh and pitched his tent among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and of truth.
15John testifies about him and has cried out, saying, “This was the one I spoke of: ‘He who comes after me has come to be ahead of me, because he existed before me.’”
