John 20:1–10
Peter and the other disciple run to the tomb and see the linen cloths; one “saw and believed”
Study it word by word1Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene comes early to the tomb, while it was still dark, and she sees the stone taken away from the tomb.
2So she runs and comes to Simon Peter and to the other disciple, whom Jesus held dear, and says to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have put him.”
3So Peter and the other disciple went out, and they were going to the tomb.
4And the two were running together, and the other disciple ran ahead, faster than Peter, and came first to the tomb.
5And stooping to look in, he sees the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in.
6So Simon Peter also comes, following him, and he went into the tomb; and he sees the linen cloths lying there,
7and the face cloth that had been on his head, not lying with the linen cloths but rolled up separately in one place.
8So then the other disciple, who had come first to the tomb, also went in, and he saw and believed;
9for they did not yet understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead.
10So the disciples went away again to their homes.
