Mark 16:1–8
They go to anoint a body and find the stone moved and a message
Study it word by word1And when the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.
2And very early on the first day of the week, they come to the tomb when the sun had risen.
3And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?”
4And looking up, they see that the stone had been rolled away; for it was very large.
5And entering into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were greatly alarmed.
6But he says to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are seeking Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.
7But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.”
8And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. Shorter ending: And all that they had been commanded they reported briefly to those around Peter. And after these things Jesus himself also sent out through them, from east to west, the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation. Amen.
