Matthew 5:14–16
Jesus: you are the light of the world
Study it word by word14You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
15Nor do they light a lamp and put it under the basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
In its context
12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
13“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt becomes tasteless, with what will it be salted? It is good for nothing any longer except to be thrown out and trampled by people.
…
17“Do not think that I came to abolish the law or the prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.
18For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one iota or one stroke will ever pass from the law until all things take place.
