Out of reverence Jews stopped pronouncing it and read "Adonai" (Lord), so many Bibles put "the LORD" or "Jehovah". This translation keeps the four letters. Translation note
This is the curse that Joshua pronounced on whoever would build Jericho again (Joshua 6:26). “At the cost of” can be understood in two ways: that the two sons died during the work, or that they were sacrificed at its beginning and at its end; the text does not make it clear.

Jericho
Today: Jericho (Ariha), West Bank
A city in the Jordan valley, about 15 miles (25 km) northeast of Jerusalem and not far from the river.
It was the first city Israel took in Canaan; its walls fell (Josh 6:20). Centuries later Jesus passed through Jericho and saved Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10).
The context
33Ahab also made the Asherah; and Ahab did still more to provoke to anger YHWH, the Elohim of Israel, than all the kings of Israel who were before him.
