He walkedוַיֵּלֶךְin allבְּכָלthe sinsחַטֹּאותof his fatherאָבִיוthatאֲשֶׁרhe had doneעָשָׂהbefore him;לְפָנָיוand his heartוְ לְבָבוֹwas notלֹא הָיָהwholeשָׁלֵםwithעִםYHWHיְהוָהhis Elohim,אֱלֹהָיוlike the heartכִּלְבַבof Davidדָּוִדhis father.אָבִיו
Butכִּיfor the sake ofלְמַעַןDavidדָּוִדYHWHיְהוָהhis Elohimאֱלֹהָיוgaveנָתַןhimלוֹa lampנִירin Jerusalem,בִּירוּשָׁלִָםraising upלְהָקִיםhis sonבְּנוֹafter himאַחֲרָיוand establishingוּלְהַעֲמִידJerusalem;יְרוּשָׁלִָם
becauseאֲשֶׁרDavidדָוִדhad doneעָשָׂהwhat was rightהַיָּשָׁרin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWH,יְהוָהandוְhad notלֹאturned asideסָרfrom anythingמִכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרhe commanded himצִוָּהוּallכֹּלthe daysיְמֵיof his life,חַיָּיוexceptרַקin the matterבִּדְבַרof Uriahאוּרִיָּהthe Hittite.הַחִתִּי

Abijamאֲבִיָּםlay downוַיִּשְׁכַּבwithעִםhis fathers,אֲבֹתָיוand they buriedוַיִּקְבְּרוּhimאֹתוֹin the cityבְּעִירof David;דָּוִדand Asaוַ אָסָאhis sonבְנוֹreignedיִּמְלֹךְin his place.תַּחְתָּיו

He droveוַיַּעֲבֵרthe sacred prostitutesהַקְּדֵשִׁיםout ofמִןthe landהָאָרֶץand removedוַיָּסַרallכָּלthe idolsהַגִּלֻּלִיםthatאֲשֶׁרhis fathersאֲבֹתָיוhad made.עָשׂוּ
And alsoוְגַםMaacahמַעֲכָהhis motherאִמּוֹhe removedוַיְסִרֶהָfrom being lady,מִגְּבִירָהbecauseאֲשֶׁרshe had madeעָשְׂתָהa horrid imageמִפְלֶצֶתfor Asherah;לָאֲשֵׁרָהand Asaוַ אָסָאcut downיִּכְרֹתher horrid imageמִפְלַצְתָּהּand burned itוַיִּשְׂרֹףat the brookבְּנַחַלKidron.קִדְרוֹן
But the high placesוְהַבָּמוֹתwere notלֹאremoved;סָרוּonlyרַקthe heartלְבַבof AsaאָסָאwasהָיָהwholeשָׁלֵםwithעִםYHWHיְהוָהallכָּלhis days.יָמָיו
He broughtוַיָּבֵאthe holy thingsקָדְשֵׁיof his fatherאָבִיוand the holy thingsוְקָדְשֵׁיof the houseבֵּיתof YHWH:יְהוָהsilverכֶּסֶףand goldוְזָהָבand vessels.וְכֵלִים
And there wasוּ הָיְתָהwarמִלְחָמָהbetweenבֵּיןAsaאָסָאandוּבֵיןBaashaבַּעְשָׁאkingמֶלֶךְof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלallכָּלtheir days.יְמֵיהֶם
Baashaבַּעְשָׁאkingמֶלֶךְof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwent upוַיַּעַלagainstעַלJudahיְהוּדָהand builtוַיִּבֶןRamah,הָרָמָהso as notלְבִלְתִּיto letתֵּתanyone go outיֹצֵאorוָcome inבָאto Asaלְאָסָאkingמֶלֶךְof Judah.יְהוּדָה
Asaאָסָאtookוַיִּקַּחallכָּלthe silverהַכֶּסֶףand the goldוְהַזָּהָבthat were leftהַנּוֹתָרִיםin the treasuriesבְּאוֹצְרוֹתof the houseבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהandוְthe treasuriesאוֹצְרוֹתof the houseבֵּיתof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְand gave themוַיִּתְּנֵםinto the handבְּיַדof his servants;עֲבָדָיוand Kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְAsaאָסָאsent themיִּשְׁלָחֵםtoאֶלBen-hadadבֶּן הֲדַדsonבֶּןof Tabrimmon,טַבְרִמֹּןsonבֶּןof Hezion,חֶזְיוֹןkingמֶלֶךְof Aram,אֲרָםwho livedהַיֹּשֵׁבin Damascus,בְּדַמֶּשֶׂקsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Let there be a covenantבְּרִיתbetween meבֵּינִיand you,וּבֵינֶךָas betweenבֵּיןmy fatherאָבִיandוּבֵיןyour father.אָבִיךָLook,הִנֵּהI have sentשָׁלַחְתִּיyouלְךָa bribeשֹׁחַדof silverכֶּסֶףand gold;וְזָהָבgo,לֵךְbreakהָפֵרָהyour covenantבְּרִיתְךָwithאֶתBaashaבַּעְשָׁאkingמֶלֶךְof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלso that he will withdrawוְיַעֲלֶהfrom me.”מֵעָלָי
Ben-hadadבֶּן הֲדַדlistenedוַיִּשְׁמַעtoאֶלKingהַמֶּלֶךְAsa,אָסָאand sentוַיִּשְׁלַחthe commandersשָׂרֵיof the troopsהַחֲיָלִיםthatאֲשֶׁרhe hadלוֹagainstעַלthe citiesעָרֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלand struckוַיַּךְIjonעִיּוֹןandוְאֶתDanדָּןandוְאֵתAbel-beth-maacahאָבֵל בֵּית מַעֲכָהandוְאֵתallכָּלChinneroth,כִּנְרוֹתwithעַלallכָּלthe landאֶרֶץof Naphtali.נַפְתָּלִי
And it happenedוַיְהִיwhen Baashaכִּ בַּעְשָׁאheard itשְׁמֹעַthat he stoppedוַיֶּחְדַּלbuildingמִבְּנוֹתRamah,הָרָמָהand livedוַיֵּשֶׁבin Tirzah.בְּתִרְצָה
Then KingוְהַמֶּלֶךְAsaאָסָאsummonedהִשְׁמִיעַallכָּלJudah,יְהוּדָהnoneאֵיןexempt,נָקִיand they carried awayוַיִּשְׂאוּthe stonesאַבְנֵיof Ramahהָרָמָהandוְits timber,עֵצֶיהָwith whichאֲשֶׁרBaashaבַּעְשָׁאhad been building;בָּנָהand Kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְAsaאָסָאbuiltיִּבֶןwith themבָּםGebaגֶּבַעof BenjaminבִּנְיָמִןandוְMizpah.הַמִּצְפָּה

He didוַיַּעַשׂwhat was evilהָרַעin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWH,יְהוָהand walkedוַיֵּלֶךְin the wayבְּדֶרֶךְof his fatherאָבִיוand in his sin,וּבְחַטָּאתוֹwith whichאֲשֶׁרhe made Israel sin.הֶחֱטִיא יִשְׂרָאֵל
Baashaבַּעְשָׁאsonבֶןof Ahijah,אֲחִיָּהof the houseלְבֵיתof Issachar,יִשָּׂשכָרconspiredוַיִּקְשֹׁרagainst him;עָלָיוand Baashaוַ בַעְשָׁאstruck him downיַּכֵּהוּat Gibbethon,בְּגִבְּתוֹןwhichאֲשֶׁרbelonged to the Philistines,לַפְּלִשְׁתִּיםwhile Nadabוְנָדָבand allוְכָלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלwere besiegingצָרִיםGibbethon.עַל גִּבְּתוֹן
Baashaבַעְשָׁאput him to deathוַיְמִתֵהוּin yearבִּשְׁנַתthreeשָׁלֹשׁof Asaלְאָסָאkingמֶלֶךְof Judah,יְהוּדָהand reignedוַיִּמְלֹךְin his place.תַּחְתָּיו
And it happened,וַיְהִיas soon as he reigned,כְמָלְכוֹthat he struck downהִכָּהallכָּלthe houseבֵּיתof Jeroboam;יָרָבְעָםhe did notלֹאleaveהִשְׁאִירto Jeroboamלְיָרָבְעָםanyכָּלbreathing thingנְשָׁמָהuntilעַדhe had destroyed it,הִשְׁמִדוֹaccording to the wordכִּדְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהthatאֲשֶׁרhe spokeדִּבֶּרthroughבְּיַדhis servantעַבְדּוֹAhijahאֲחִיָּהthe Shilonite,הַשִּׁילֹנִי
because ofעַלthe sinsחַטֹּאותof Jeroboamיָרָבְעָםthatאֲשֶׁרhe sinnedחָטָאand with whichוַאֲשֶׁרhe made Israel sin,הֶחֱטִיא יִשְׂרָאֵלby his provocationבְּכַעְסוֹwith whichאֲשֶׁרhe provoked to angerהִכְעִיסYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
