1 Kings 3:4-15

4And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place; a thousand burnt offerings Solomon offered on that altar. 5At Gibeon YHWH appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and Elohim said, “Ask what I shall give you.” 6And Solomon said, “You have shown your servant David my father great loyal love, because he walked before you in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart toward you; and you have kept for him this great loyal love and have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7And now, YHWH my Elohim, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, but I am a little boy; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered or counted for multitude. 9So give your servant a heart that listens, to judge your people, to discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this people of yours, so great?” 10And the thing was good in the eyes of Adonai, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11And Elohim said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself many days, and have not asked for yourself riches, and have not asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to hear justice, 12look, I have done according to your words; look, I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that like you there has not been anyone before you, and after you none will arise like you. 13And also what you have not asked I have given you, both riches and glory, so that there shall not be any man like you among the kings all your days. 14And if you walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as David your father walked, then I will prolong your days.” 15And Solomon woke up, and he saw that it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of Adonai, and offered burnt offerings and offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.

2 Chronicles 1:1-13

1Solomon son of David strengthened himself over his kingdom; and YHWH his Elohim was with him and made him great exceedingly. 2Solomon gave the order to all Israel: to the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every chief of all Israel, the heads of the fathers’ houses. 3Then Solomon and all the assembly with him went to the high place that was at Gibeon, for there was the tent of meeting of Elohim that Moses, the servant of YHWH, had made in the wilderness. 4But the ark of Elohim David had brought up from Kiriath-jearim to the place that David had prepared for it, for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem. 5And the altar of bronze that Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur, had made, he had put before the dwelling of YHWH; and Solomon and the assembly consulted it. 6Solomon went up there to the altar of bronze before YHWH, the one at the tent of meeting, and offered up on it a thousand burnt offerings. 7In that night Elohim appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask what I shall give you.” 8Solomon said to Elohim, “You showed great loyal love to David my father, and you have made me king in his place. 9Now, YHWH Elohim, let your word to David my father be firm, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. 10Now give me wisdom and knowledge, and I will go out before this people and come in; for who can judge this great people of yours?” 11Elohim said to Solomon, “Because this was in your heart, and you did not ask for riches, possessions, or glory, or the life of those who hate you, and you did not even ask for many days, but you asked for yourself wisdom and knowledge so that you may judge my people over whom I have made you king, 12the wisdom and the knowledge are given to you; and riches, possessions, and glory I will give you, such as the kings who were before you did not have, and after you none will have the like.” 13Solomon came from the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tent of meeting, and he reigned over Israel.
