The spiritרוּחַof ElohimאֱלֹהִיםcameהָיְתָהuponעָלָיוAzariahעֲזַרְיָהוּsonבֶּןof Oded,עוֹדֵד
and he went outוַיֵּצֵאbeforeלִפְנֵיAsaאָסָאand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto him,לוֹ“Hearשְׁמָעוּme,נִיAsaאָסָאand allוְכָלJudahיְהוּדָהand Benjamin!וּבִנְיָמִןYHWHיְהוָהis with youעִמָּכֶםwhile you areבִּהְיוֹתְכֶםwith him.עִמּוֹIfוְאִםyou seek him,תִּדְרְשֻׁהוּhe will let himself be foundיִמָּצֵאby you;לָכֶםbut ifוְאִםyou abandon him,תַּעַזְבֻהוּhe will abandonיַעֲזֹבyou.אֶתְכֶם
ManyרַבִּיםdaysיָמִיםIsrael wasלְיִשְׂרָאֵלwithoutלְלֹאthe trueאֱמֶתElohim,אֱלֹהֵיand withoutוּלְלֹאa priestכֹּהֵןwho taught,מוֹרֶהand withoutוּלְלֹאinstruction.תוֹרָה
But in his distressוַ בַּצַּר לוֹhe turned backיָּשָׁבtoעַלYHWH,יְהוָהElohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵלthey sought him,וַיְבַקְשֻׁהוּand he let himself be foundוַיִּמָּצֵאby them.לָהֶם
In thoseוּבָ הָהֵםtimesעִתִּיםthere was noאֵיןpeaceשָׁלוֹםfor the one going outלַיּוֹצֵאor for the one coming in,וְלַבָּאforכִּיgreatרַבּוֹתconfusions wereמְהוּמֹתonעַלallכָּלthe inhabitantsיוֹשְׁבֵיof the lands.הָאֲרָצוֹת
Nationגוֹיwas crushedוְכֻתְּתוּby nation,בְּגוֹיand cityוְעִירby city,בְּעִירforכִּיElohimאֱלֹהִיםthrew them into confusionהֲמָמָםwith everyבְּכָלdistress.צָרָה
But you,וְאַתֶּםbe strong,חִזְקוּand do notוְאַלlet your handsיְדֵיכֶםgo slack,יִרְפּוּforכִּיthere areיֵשׁwagesשָׂכָרfor your work.”לִפְעֻלַּתְכֶם
When Asaוְכִ אָסָאheardשְׁמֹעַtheseהָאֵלֶּהwordsהַדְּבָרִיםand the prophecy,וְהַנְּבוּאָהOdedעֹדֵדthe prophet,הַנָּבִיאhe grew strongהִתְחַזַּקand removedוַיַּעֲבֵרthe detestable thingsהַשִּׁקּוּצִיםfrom allמִכָּלthe landאֶרֶץof Judahיְהוּדָהand Benjamin,וּבִנְיָמִןand fromוּמִןthe citiesהֶעָרִיםthatאֲשֶׁרhe had capturedלָכַדfrom the hill countryמֵהַרof Ephraim;אֶפְרָיִםand he renewedוַיְחַדֵּשׁthe altarמִזְבַּחof YHWHיְהוָהthatאֲשֶׁרwas in front ofלִפְנֵיthe porticoאוּלָםof YHWH.יְהוָה
He gatheredוַיִּקְבֹּץallכָּלJudahיְהוּדָהand Benjamin,וּבִנְיָמִןand the resident aliensוְהַגָּרִיםwith themעִמָּהֶםfrom Ephraimמֵאֶפְרַיִםand Manassehוּמְנַשֶּׁהand from Simeon;וּמִשִּׁמְעוֹןforכִּיgreat numbersלָרֹבfrom Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵלhad gone overנָפְלוּto himעָלָיוwhen they sawבִּרְאֹתָםthatכִּיYHWHיְהוָהhis Elohimאֱלֹהָיוwas with him.עִמּוֹ
They gatheredוַיִּקָּבְצוּat Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםin the thirdבַּ הַשְּׁלִישִׁיmonthחֹדֶשׁof yearלִשְׁנַתfifteenחֲמֵשׁ עֶשְׂרֵהof the reignלְמַלְכוּתof Asa.אָסָא
They sacrificedוַיִּזְבְּחוּto YHWHלַיהוָהon thatבַּ הַהוּאday,יּוֹםfromמִןthe spoilהַשָּׁלָלthat they had brought,הֵבִיאוּsevenשְׁבַעhundredמֵאוֹתcattleבָּקָרand sevenוְ שִׁבְעַתthousandאֲלָפִיםsheep and goats.צֹאן
They enteredוַיָּבֹאוּinto the covenantבַבְּרִיתto seekלִדְרוֹשׁYHWH,יְהוָהElohimאֱלֹהֵיof their fathers,אֲבוֹתֵיהֶםwith allבְּכָלtheir heartלְבָבָםand with allוּבְכָלtheir soul;נַפְשָׁם
and whoeverוְכֹל אֲשֶׁרwould notלֹאseekיִדְרֹשׁYHWH,לַיהוָהElohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלwould be put to death,יוּמָתfromלְמִןsmallקָטֹןtoוְעַדgreat,גָּדוֹלfromלְמֵmanאִישׁtoוְעַדwoman.אִשָּׁה
They sworeוַיִּשָּׁבְעוּto YHWHלַיהוָהwith a loudבְּ גָּדוֹלvoice,קוֹלand with acclamation,וּבִתְרוּעָהand with trumpetsוּבַחֲצֹצְרוֹתand with shofars.וּבְשׁוֹפָרוֹת
AllכָלJudahיְהוּדָהrejoicedוַיִּשְׂמְחוּoverעַלthe oath,הַשְּׁבוּעָהforכִּיwith allבְכָלtheir heartלְבָבָםthey had sworn,נִשְׁבָּעוּand with allוּבְכָלtheir willרְצוֹנָםthey had sought him,בִּקְשֻׁהוּand he let himself be foundוַיִּמָּצֵאby them;לָהֶםand YHWHוַ יְהוָהgave them restיָּנַח לָהֶםall around.מִסָּבִיב
And alsoוְגַםMaacah,מַעֲכָהthe motherאֵםof Asaאָסָאthe king,הַמֶּלֶךְhe removedהֱסִירָהּfrom being lady,מִגְּבִירָהbecauseאֲשֶׁרshe had madeעָשְׂתָהfor Asherahלַאֲשֵׁרָהa horrid image;מִפְלָצֶתand Asaוַ אָסָאcut downיִּכְרֹתher horrid image,מִפְלַצְתָּהּground it to dustוַיָּדֶקand burned itוַיִּשְׂרֹףat the brookבְּנַחַלKidron.קִדְרוֹן
But the high placesוְהַבָּמוֹתwere notלֹאremovedסָרוּfrom Israel;מִיִּשְׂרָאֵלonlyרַקthe heartלְבַבof Asaאָסָאwasהָיָהwholeשָׁלֵםallכָּלhis days.יָמָיו
He broughtוַיָּבֵאinto the houseבֵּיתof Elohimהָאֱלֹהִיםthe holy thingsקָדְשֵׁיof his fatherאָבִיוand his own holy things:וְקָדָשָׁיוsilverכֶּסֶףand goldוְזָהָבand vessels.וְכֵלִים
And there was noוּ לֹא הָיָתָהwarמִלְחָמָהuntilעַדyearשְׁנַתthirty-fiveשְׁלֹשִׁים וְחָמֵשׁof the reignלְמַלְכוּתof Asa.אָסָא
