YHWH

The personal name of the God of Israel, written in Hebrew with four letters, Y-H-W-H, without vowels. Out of reverence Jews stopped pronouncing it and read "Adonai" (Lord), so many Bibles put "the LORD" or "Jehovah". This translation keeps the four letters. The name is related to the verb "to be" (Exodus 3:14-15). He is not a god other than Elohim: "YHWH Elohim" is the same Creator God, called by his name.

Translation note

In Mark 12:32 the scribe repeats this confession of one God: “there is no other besides him.”

The context

34Or has a god tried to come and take for himself a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a strong hand and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that YHWH your Elohim did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

36From the heavens he made you hear his voice to discipline you; and on the earth he made you see his great fire, and you heard his words from the midst of the fire.
