Whoמִיis like the wise man?כְּהֶחָכָםAnd whoוּמִיknowsיוֹדֵעַthe interpretationפֵּשֶׁרof a matter?דָּבָרThe wisdomחָכְמַתof a human beingאָדָםlights upתָּאִירhis face,פָּנָיוand the hardnessוְעֹזof his faceפָּנָיוis changed.יְשֻׁנֶּא
I say:אֲנִיkeepשְׁמוֹרthe commandפִּיof the king,מֶלֶךְand that becauseוְעַל דִּבְרַתof the oathשְׁבוּעַתof Elohim.אֱלֹהִים
Do notאַלbe hastyתִּבָּהֵלto goתֵּלֵךְfrom his presence;מִפָּנָיוdo notאַלstandתַּעֲמֹדin a badרָעmatter,בְּדָבָרforכִּיallכָּלthatאֲשֶׁרhe pleasesיַחְפֹּץhe will do.יַעֲשֶׂה
Becauseבַּאֲשֶׁרthe wordדְּבַרof the kingמֶלֶךְis power,שִׁלְטוֹןand whoוּמִיwill sayיֹאמַרto him,לוֹ“Whatמַהare you doing?”תַּעֲשֶׂה
Whoever keepsשׁוֹמֵרthe commandmentמִצְוָהwill notלֹאknowיֵדַעa badרָעthing,דָּבָרand the timeוְעֵתand the judgmentוּמִשְׁפָּטthe heartלֵבof a wise manחָכָםknows.יֵדַע
Forכִּיfor everyלְכָלmatterחֵפֶץthere isיֵשׁa timeעֵתand judgment,וּמִשְׁפָּטforכִּיthe evilרָעַתof the human beingהָאָדָםis greatרַבָּהupon him.עָלָיו
Forכִּיhe does notאֵינֶנּוּknowיֹדֵעַwhatמַה שֶּׁwill be;יִּהְיֶהforכִּיhowכַּאֲשֶׁרit will be,יִהְיֶהwhoמִיwill tell him?יַגִּיד לוֹ
There is noאֵיןhuman beingאָדָםwith powerשַׁלִּיטover the breathבָּרוּחַto retainלִכְלוֹאthe breath,אֶת הָרוּחַnor is thereוְאֵיןpowerשִׁלְטוֹןover the dayבְּיוֹםof death,הַמָּוֶתnor is thereוְאֵיןdischargeמִשְׁלַחַתin war,בַּמִּלְחָמָהnorוְלֹאwill wickednessרֶשַׁעdeliverיְמַלֵּטits owners.אֶת בְּעָלָיו
Allאֶת כָּלthisזֶהI saw,רָאִיתִיand I gaveוְנָתוֹןmy heartאֶת לִבִּיto everyלְכָלworkמַעֲשֶׂהthatאֲשֶׁרis doneנַעֲשָׂהunderתַּחַתthe sun,הַשָּׁמֶשׁa timeעֵתin whichאֲשֶׁרthe human beingהָאָדָםrulesשָׁלַטover a human beingבְּאָדָםto his harm.לְרַע לוֹ
And soוּבְכֵןI sawרָאִיתִיthe wickedרְשָׁעִיםburied,קְבֻרִיםand they came,וָבָאוּand fromוּמִthe holyקָדוֹשׁplaceמְּקוֹםthey would go,יְהַלֵּכוּand they were forgottenוְיִשְׁתַּכְּחוּin the cityבָעִירwhereאֲשֶׁרthey had doneעָשׂוּso.כֵּןThis tooגַּם זֶהis vapor.הָבֶל
Becauseאֲשֶׁרthe sentenceפִתְגָםagainst the evilהָרָעָהworkמַעֲשֵׂהis notאֵיןcarried outנַעֲשָׂהquickly,מְהֵרָהthereforeעַל כֵּןthe heartלֵבof human beingsבְּנֵי הָאָדָםis fullמָלֵאin themבָּהֶםto doלַעֲשׂוֹתevil.רָע
Thoughאֲשֶׁרa sinnerחֹטֶאdoesעֹשֶׂהevilרָעa hundred timesמְאַתand prolongs his days,וּמַאֲרִיךְ לוֹyetכִּיalsoגַּםIאָנִיknowיוֹדֵעַthatאֲשֶׁרit will beיִהְיֶהwellטּוֹבwith those who fearלְיִרְאֵיElohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםwhoאֲשֶׁרfearיִירְאוּbefore him;מִלְּפָנָיו
butוְit will notלֹאbe wellטוֹב יִהְיֶהwith the wicked,לָרָשָׁעand he will notוְלֹאprolongיַאֲרִיךְhis daysיָמִיםlike the shadow,כַּצֵּלbecauseאֲשֶׁרhe does notאֵינֶנּוּfearיָרֵאbeforeמִלִּפְנֵיElohim.אֱלֹהִים
There isיֶשׁa vaporהֶבֶלthatאֲשֶׁרis doneנַעֲשָׂהon the earth,עַל הָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרthere areיֵשׁrighteous onesצַדִּיקִיםto whomאֲשֶׁר אֲלֵהֶםit comesמַגִּיעַaccording to the workכְּמַעֲשֵׂהof the wicked,הָרְשָׁעִיםand there areוְיֵשׁwicked onesרְשָׁעִיםto whomשֶׁ אֲלֵהֶםit comesמַּגִּיעַaccording to the workכְּמַעֲשֵׂהof the righteous.הַצַּדִּיקִיםI saidאָמַרְתִּיthatשֶׁthis tooגַּם זֶהis vapor.הָבֶל
And Iוְ אֲנִיpraisedשִׁבַּחְתִּיjoy,אֶת הַשִּׂמְחָהbecauseאֲשֶׁרthere is noאֵיןgoodטוֹבfor the human beingלָאָדָםunderתַּחַתthe sunהַשֶּׁמֶשׁexceptכִּי אִםto eatלֶאֱכוֹלand to drinkוְלִשְׁתּוֹתand to rejoice,וְלִשְׂמוֹחַand thisוְהוּאwill accompany himיִלְוֶנּוּin his toilבַעֲמָלוֹthrough the daysיְמֵיof his lifeחַיָּיוwhichאֲשֶׁרElohimהָאֱלֹהִיםhas given himנָתַן לוֹunderתַּחַתthe sun.הַשָּׁמֶשׁ
WhenכַּאֲשֶׁרI gaveנָתַתִּיmy heartאֶת לִבִּיto knowלָדַעַתwisdomחָכְמָהand to seeוְלִרְאוֹתthe occupationאֶת הָעִנְיָןthatאֲשֶׁרis doneנַעֲשָׂהon the earthעַל הָאָרֶץ— forכִּיneitherגַםby dayבַּיּוֹםnor by nightוּבַלַּיְלָהdoes one seeאֵינֶנּוּ רֹאֶהsleepשֵׁנָהwith his eyes—בְּעֵינָיו
then I sawוְרָאִיתִיallאֶת כָּלthe workמַעֲשֵׂהof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםthatכִּיthe human beingהָאָדָםcannotלֹא יוּכַלfind outלִמְצוֹאthe workאֶת הַמַּעֲשֶׂהthatאֲשֶׁרis doneנַעֲשָׂהunderתַחַתthe sun;הַשֶּׁמֶשׁhowever muchבְּשֶׁל אֲשֶׁרthe human beingהָאָדָםtoilsיַעֲמֹלin seeking,לְבַקֵּשׁhe will notוְלֹאfind it;יִמְצָאand even ifוְגַם אִםthe wise manהֶחָכָםsaysיֹאמַרthat he knows,לָדַעַתhe cannotלֹא יוּכַלfind it.לִמְצֹא
