And it happenedוַיְהִיon the thirdבַּ הַשְּׁלִישִׁיdayיּוֹםthat Estherוַ אֶסְתֵּרput onתִּלְבַּשׁroyaltyמַלְכוּתand stoodוַתַּעֲמֹדin the innerבַּ הַפְּנִימִיתcourtחֲצַרof the king’sהַמֶּלֶךְhouse,בֵּיתoppositeנֹכַחthe king’sהַמֶּלֶךְhouse;בֵּיתand the kingוְהַמֶּלֶךְwas sittingיוֹשֵׁבonעַלhis royalמַלְכוּתוֹthroneכִּסֵּאin the royalבְּ הַמַּלְכוּתhouse,בֵיתoppositeנֹכַחthe entranceפֶּתַחof the house.הַבָּיִת
And it happened,וַיְהִיwhenכִthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְsawרְאוֹתEstherאֶסְתֵּרthe queenהַמַּלְכָּהstandingעֹמֶדֶתin the court,בֶּחָצֵרthat she wonנָשְׂאָהfavorחֵןin his eyes;בְּעֵינָיוand the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְheld outיּוֹשֶׁטto Estherלְאֶסְתֵּרthe goldenהַזָּהָבscepterשַׁרְבִיטthat wasאֲשֶׁרin his hand,בְּיָדוֹand Estherוַ אֶסְתֵּרcame nearתִּקְרַבand touchedוַתִּגַּעthe tipבְּרֹאשׁof the scepter.הַשַּׁרְבִיט
And the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְsaidיֹּאמֶרto her,לָהּ“What is the matter with you,מַה לָּךְEstherאֶסְתֵּרthe queen?הַמַּלְכָּהAnd whatוּמַהisyour petition?בַּקָּשָׁתֵךְUp toעַדhalfחֲצִיof the kingdom,הַמַּלְכוּתand it will be givenוְיִנָּתֵןto you.”לָךְ
And Estherוַ אֶסְתֵּרsaid,תֹּאמֶר“Ifאִםit seems goodטוֹבtoעַלthe king,הַמֶּלֶךְlet the kingהַמֶּלֶךְand Hamanוְהָמָןcomeיָבוֹאtodayהַיּוֹםtoאֶלthe banquetהַמִּשְׁתֶּהthatאֲשֶׁרI have madeעָשִׂיתִיfor him.”לוֹ
And the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְsaid,יֹּאמֶר“MakeמַהֲרוּHamanהָמָןhurry,מַהֲרוּto doלַעֲשׂוֹתthe wordדְּבַרof Esther.”אֶסְתֵּרAnd the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְand Hamanוְהָמָןcameיָּבֹאtoאֶלthe banquetהַמִּשְׁתֶּהthatאֲשֶׁרEstherאֶסְתֵּרhad made.עָשְׂתָה
And the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְsaidיֹּאמֶרto Estherלְאֶסְתֵּרat the banquetבְּמִשְׁתֵּהof wine,הַיַּיִן“Whatמַהisyour request?שְּׁאֵלָתֵךְIt will be givenוְיִנָּתֵןto you.לָךְAnd whatוּמַהisyour petition?בַּקָּשָׁתֵךְUp toעַדhalfחֲצִיof the kingdom,הַמַּלְכוּתand it will be done.”וְתֵעָשׂ
And Estherוַ אֶסְתֵּרansweredתַּעַןand said,וַתֹּאמַר“My requestשְׁאֵלָתִיand my petition:וּבַקָּשָׁתִי
ifאִםI have foundמָצָאתִיfavorחֵןin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְand ifוְאִםit seems goodטוֹבtoעַלthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְto grantלָתֵתmy requestשְׁאֵלָתִיand to doוְלַעֲשׂוֹתmy petition,בַּקָּשָׁתִיlet the kingהַמֶּלֶךְand Hamanוְהָמָןcomeיָבוֹאtoאֶלthe banquetהַמִּשְׁתֶּהthatאֲשֶׁרI will makeאֶעֱשֶׂהfor them,לָהֶםand tomorrowוּמָחָרI will doאֶעֱשֶׂהaccording to the wordכִּדְבַרof the king.”הַמֶּלֶךְ
And Hamanוַ הָמָןwent outיֵּצֵאthatבַּ הַהוּאdayיּוֹםgladשָׂמֵחַand goodוְטוֹבof heart;לֵבbut whenוְכִHamanהָמָןsawרְאוֹתMordecaiמָרְדֳּכַיin the king’sהַמֶּלֶךְgate,בְּשַׁעַרand that he did notוְלֹאriseקָםand did notוְלֹאtrembleזָעbefore him,מִמֶּנּוּHamanוַ הָמָןwas filledיִּמָּלֵאwith furyחֵמָהagainstעַלMordecai.מָרְדֳּכַי
But Hamanוַ הָמָןrestrained himselfיִּתְאַפַּקand wentוַיָּבוֹאtoאֶלhis house;בֵּיתוֹand he sentוַיִּשְׁלַחand broughtוַיָּבֵאhis friendsאֹהֲבָיוand Zereshוְ זֶרֶשׁhis wife.אִשְׁתּוֹ
And Hamanוַ הָמָןrecountedיְסַפֵּרto themלָהֶםthe gloryכְּבוֹדof his richesעָשְׁרוֹand the abundanceוְרֹבof his sons,בָּנָיוand allוְ כָּלthe ways in whichאֲשֶׁרthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְhad made him greatגִּדְּלוֹand howוְ אֲשֶׁרhe had exalted himנִשְּׂאוֹaboveעַלthe officialsהַשָּׂרִיםand the servantsוְעַבְדֵיof the king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
And Hamanוַ הָמָןsaid,יֹּאמֶר“What is more,אַףEstherאֶסְתֵּרthe queenהַמַּלְכָּהdid notלֹאbringהֵבִיאָהwith the kingעִם הַמֶּלֶךְtoאֶלthe banquetהַמִּשְׁתֶּהthatאֲשֶׁרshe madeעָשָׂתָהanyonebutכִּי אִםme;אוֹתִיand alsoוְגַםfor tomorrowלְמָחָרIאֲנִיam invitedקָרוּאby herלָהּwith the king.עִם הַמֶּלֶךְ
Yet allוְכָלthisזֶהis notאֵינֶנּוּworth anythingשֹׁוֶהto meלִיeveryבְּכָלtimeעֵתthatאֲשֶׁרIאֲנִיseeרֹאֶהMordecaiמָרְדֳּכַיthe Jewהַיְּהוּדִיsittingיוֹשֵׁבin the king’sהַמֶּלֶךְgate.”בְּשַׁעַר
And Zereshוַ זֶרֶשׁhis wifeאִשְׁתּוֹand allוְכָלhis friendsאֹהֲבָיוsaidתֹּאמֶרto him,לוֹ“Let them makeיַעֲשׂוּa poleעֵץfiftyחֲמִשִּׁיםcubitsאַמָּהhigh,גָּבֹהַּand in the morningוּבַבֹּקֶרtellאֱמֹרthe kingלַמֶּלֶךְthat they should hangוְיִתְלוּMordecaiמָרְדֳּכַיon it;עָלָיוthen goוּבֹאwith the kingעִם הַמֶּלֶךְtoאֶלthe banquetהַמִּשְׁתֶּהglad.”שָׂמֵחַAnd the matterוַ הַדָּבָרseemed goodיִּיטַבto Haman,לִפְנֵי הָמָןand he madeוַיַּעַשׂthe pole.הָעֵץ
