Thatבַּ הַהוּאnightלַּיְלָהthe king’sהַמֶּלֶךְsleepשְׁנַתfled,נָדְדָהand he saidוַיֹּאמֶרto bringלְהָבִיאthe bookסֵפֶרof the memorials,הַזִּכְרֹנוֹתthe chronicles,דִּבְרֵי הַיָּמִיםand they wereוַיִּהְיוּreadנִקְרָאִיםbeforeלִפְנֵיthe king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
And it was foundוַיִּמָּצֵאwrittenכָתוּבthatאֲשֶׁרMordecaiמָרְדֳּכַיhad made knownהִגִּידaboutעַלBigthanaבִּגְתָנָאand Teresh,וָתֶרֶשׁtwoשְׁנֵיof the king’sהַמֶּלֶךְeunuchs,סָרִיסֵיofמִthe keepersשֹּׁמְרֵיof the threshold,הַסַּףwhoאֲשֶׁרhad soughtבִּקְשׁוּto stretch outלִשְׁלֹחַtheirhandיָדagainstבַּKing Ahasuerus.מֶּלֶךְ אֲחַשְׁוֵרוֹשׁ
And the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְsaid,יֹּאמֶר“Whatמַהhonorיְקָרand greatnessוּגְדוּלָּהhas been doneנַּעֲשָׂהfor Mordecaiלְמָרְדֳּכַיforעַלthis?”זֶהAnd the king’sוַ הַמֶּלֶךְyoung menנַעֲרֵיwho served himמְשָׁרְתָיוsaid,יֹּאמְרוּ“Nothingלֹא דָּבָרhas been doneנַעֲשָׂהfor him.”עִמּוֹ
And the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְsaid,יֹּאמֶר“Whoמִיisin the court?”בֶחָצֵרNow Hamanוְהָמָןhad comeבָּאto the outerלַ הַחִיצוֹנָהcourtחֲצַרof the king’sהַמֶּלֶךְhouseבֵּיתto sayלֵאמֹרto the kingלַמֶּלֶךְto hangלִתְלוֹתMordecaiמָרְדֳּכַיonעַלthe poleהָעֵץthatאֲשֶׁרhe had preparedהֵכִיןfor him.לוֹ
And the king’sוַ הַמֶּלֶךְyoung menנַעֲרֵיsaidיֹּאמְרוּto him,אֵלָיו“Look,הִנֵּהHamanהָמָןis standingעֹמֵדin the court.”בֶּחָצֵרAnd the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְsaid,יֹּאמֶר“Let him come in.”יָבוֹא
So Hamanוַ הָמָןcame in,יָּבוֹאand the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְsaidיֹּאמֶרto him,לוֹ“Whatמַהis to be doneלַעֲשׂוֹתfor the manבָּאִישׁwhomאֲשֶׁרthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְdelightsחָפֵץto honor?”בִּיקָרוֹAnd Hamanוַ הָמָןsaidיֹּאמֶרin his heart,בְּלִבּוֹ“Whomלְמִיwould the kingהַמֶּלֶךְdelightיַחְפֹּץto honorלַעֲשׂוֹת יְקָרmoreיוֹתֵרthan me?”מִמֶּנִּי
And Hamanוַ הָמָןsaidיֹּאמֶרto the king,אֶל הַמֶּלֶךְ“The manאִישׁwhomאֲשֶׁרthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְdelightsחָפֵץto honor,בִּיקָרוֹ
let them bringיָבִיאוּa royalמַלְכוּתrobeלְבוּשׁthatאֲשֶׁרthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְhas worn,לָבַשׁ בּוֹand a horseוְסוּסthatאֲשֶׁרthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְhas ridden,רָכַב עָלָיוand on whoseוַאֲשֶׁרheadבְּרֹאשׁוֹa royalמַלְכוּתcrownכֶּתֶרhas been set;נִתַּן
and let the robeוְ הַלְּבוּשׁand the horseוְהַסּוּסbe givenנָתוֹןinto the handעַל יַדof a manאִישׁfrom amongמִthe king’sהַמֶּלֶךְofficials,שָּׂרֵיthe nobles,הַפַּרְתְּמִיםand let them clotheוְהִלְבִּישׁוּthe manהָאִישׁwhomאֲשֶׁרthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְdelightsחָפֵץto honor,בִּיקָרוֹand let them make him rideוְהִרְכִּיבֻהוּonעַלthe horseהַסּוּסthrough the squareבִּרְחוֹבof the city,הָעִירand proclaimוְקָרְאוּbefore him,לְפָנָיו‘Thusכָּכָהit will be doneיֵעָשֶׂהto the manלָאִישׁwhomאֲשֶׁרthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְdelightsחָפֵץto honor!’”בִּיקָרוֹ
And the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְsaidיֹּאמֶרto Haman,לְהָמָן“Hurry,מַהֵרtakeקַחthe robeהַלְּבוּשׁand the horse,וְ הַסּוּסasכַּאֲשֶׁרyou have spoken,דִּבַּרְתָּand doוַעֲשֵׂהsoכֵןto Mordecaiלְמָרְדֳּכַיthe Jewהַיְּהוּדִיwho sitsהַיּוֹשֵׁבin the king’sהַמֶּלֶךְgate;בְּשַׁעַרdo notאַלletתַּפֵּלanythingדָּבָרfallתַּפֵּלfrom allמִכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרyou have spoken.”דִּבַּרְתָּ
And Hamanוַ הָמָןtookיִּקַּחthe robeהַלְּבוּשׁand the horse,וְ הַסּוּסand clothedוַיַּלְבֵּשׁMordecai,מָרְדֳּכָיand made him rideוַיַּרְכִּיבֵהוּthrough the squareבִּרְחוֹבof the city,הָעִירand proclaimedוַיִּקְרָאbefore him,לְפָנָיו“Thusכָּכָהit will be doneיֵעָשֶׂהto the manלָאִישׁwhomאֲשֶׁרthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְdelightsחָפֵץto honor!”בִּיקָרוֹ
And Mordecaiוַ מָרְדֳּכַיreturnedיָּשָׁבtoאֶלthe king’sהַמֶּלֶךְgate,שַׁעַרbut Hamanוְהָמָןhurriedנִדְחַףtoאֶלhis house,בֵּיתוֹmourningאָבֵלand with his headוַ רֹאשׁcovered.חֲפוּי
And Hamanוַ הָמָןrecountedיְסַפֵּרto Zereshלְזֶרֶשׁhis wifeאִשְׁתּוֹand to allוּלְכָלhis friendsאֹהֲבָיוallכָּלthatאֲשֶׁרhad happened to him;קָרָהוּand his wise menוַ חֲכָמָיוand Zereshוְזֶרֶשׁhis wifeאִשְׁתּוֹsaidיֹּאמְרוּto him,לוֹ“IfאִםMordecai,מָרְדֳּכַיbefore whomאֲשֶׁר לְפָנָיוyou have begunהַחִלּוֹתָto fall,לִנְפֹּלisofמִthe offspringזֶּרַעof the Jews,הַיְּהוּדִיםyou will notלֹאprevailתוּכַלagainst him,לוֹbutכִּיyou will surelyנָפוֹלfallתִּפּוֹלbefore him.”לְפָנָיו
Theyםwere stillעוֹדָspeakingמְדַבְּרִיםwith himעִמּוֹwhenוְthe king’sהַמֶּלֶךְeunuchsסָרִיסֵיarrivedהִגִּיעוּand hurriedוַיַּבְהִלוּto bringלְהָבִיאHamanהָמָןtoאֶלthe banquetהַמִּשְׁתֶּהthatאֲשֶׁרEstherאֶסְתֵּרhad made.עָשְׂתָה
