Exodus 16:34, word by word
- YHWHיְהוָהyehva
YHWH
The personal name of the God of Israel, written in Hebrew with four letters, Y-H-W-H, without vowels. Out of reverence Jews stopped pronouncing it and read "Adonai" (Lord), so many Bibles put "the LORD" or "Jehovah". This translation keeps the four letters. The name is related to the verb "to be" (Exodus 3:14-15). He is not a god other than Elohim: "YHWH Elohim" is the same Creator God, called by his name.

command
To give an order: "as YHWH had commanded".
Where else “tsiva” appears- Mosesמֹשֶׁהmoshe
Moses
Moses, the man God called to bring Israel out of Egypt and through whom he gave the Law. His name sounds like "draw out" (Exodus 2:10).
Where else “moshe” appears- Aaronאַהֲרֹןaharon
Aaron
Aaron, the older brother of Moses, his spokesman before Pharaoh and the first high priest of Israel.
Where else “aharon” appears- set itיַּנִּיחֵyaniche

To set something or someone in a place.
Where else “yaniche” appears- beforeפְנֵיfene
before
Literally "to the face of": in sight of someone, or on account of something.
Where else “fene” appears- the testimonyעֵדֻתedut
testimony
Testimony: the tablets of the covenant, which bear witness to what God commanded; "the ark of the testimony" holds them.
Where else “edut” appears- to be keptמִשְׁמָרֶתmishmaret
keeping
Something set aside so that it is kept.
Where else “mishmaret” appears
Translation note
It can be understood that “the testimony” is the tablets of the covenant, which were kept in the ark (25:16), and that the account anticipates here something that was done when the ark already existed (compare Hebrews 9:4).
The context
33Moses said to Aaron, “Take a jar, and put in it a full omer of manna, and set it before YHWH, to be kept throughout your generations.”
34 · This verse (above)
35The sons of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.
