Allכָּלthe communityעֲדַתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלset outוַיִּסְעוּfrom the wildernessמִמִּדְבַּרof Sin,סִיןby their stages,לְמַסְעֵיהֶםaccording to the commandעַל פִּיof YHWH,יְהוָהand campedוַיַּחֲנוּat Rephidim;בִּרְפִידִיםbut there was noוְאֵיןwaterמַיִםfor the peopleהָעָםto drink.לִשְׁתֹּת
The peopleהָעָםquarreledוַיָּרֶבwith Mosesעִם מֹשֶׁהand said,וַיֹּאמְרוּ“Giveתְּנוּusלָנוּwaterמַיִםto drink.”וְנִשְׁתֶּהMosesמֹשֶׁהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,לָהֶם“Whyמַהdo you quarrelתְּרִיבוּןwith me?עִמָּדִיWhyמַהdo you testתְּנַסּוּןYHWH?”אֶת יְהוָה
The peopleהָעָםthirstedוַיִּצְמָאthereשָׁםfor water,לַמַּיִםand the peopleוַ הָעָםgrumbledיָּלֶןagainstעַלMosesמֹשֶׁהand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Whyלָמָּהis itזֶּהyou brought us upהֶעֱלִיתָנוּfrom Egyptמִמִּצְרַיִםto killלְהָמִיתmeאֹתִיand my sonsוְאֶת בָּנַיand my livestockוְאֶת מִקְנַיwith thirst?”בַּצָּמָא
Mosesמֹשֶׁהcried outוַיִּצְעַקto YHWH,אֶל יְהוָהsaying,לֵאמֹר“Whatמָהshall I doאֶעֱשֶׂהwith thisהַזֶּהpeople?לָעָםA littleמְעַטmoreעוֹדand they will stone me.”וּסְקָלֻנִי
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Pass onעֲבֹרbeforeלִפְנֵיthe people,הָעָםand takeוְקַחwith youאִתְּךָsome ofמִthe eldersזִּקְנֵיof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵלand your staff,וּמַטְּךָwith whichאֲשֶׁר בּוֹyou struckהִכִּיתָthe Nile,אֶת הַיְאֹרtakeקַחin your hand,בְּיָדְךָand go.וְהָלָכְתָּ
Look,הִנְIנִיwill standעֹמֵדbefore youלְפָנֶיךָthereשָּׁםonעַלthe rockהַצּוּרat Horeb;בְּחֹרֵבand you shall strikeוְהִכִּיתָthe rock,בַצּוּרand waterוְ מַיִםwill come outיָצְאוּof it,מִמֶּנּוּand the peopleוְ הָעָםwill drink.”שָׁתָהAnd Mosesוַ מֹשֶׁהdidיַּעַשׂsoכֵּןin the sightלְעֵינֵיof the eldersזִקְנֵיof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
He calledוַיִּקְרָאthe nameשֵׁםof the placeהַמָּקוֹםMassahמַסָּהand Meribah,וּמְרִיבָהbecause ofעַלthe quarrelingרִיבof the sonsבְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלand becauseוְעַלthey testedנַסֹּתָםYHWH,אֶת יְהוָהsaying,לֵאמֹר“IsהֲיֵשׁYHWHיְהוָהamong usבְּקִרְבֵּנוּorאִםnot?”אָיִן
Then Amalekוַ עֲמָלֵקcameיָּבֹאand foughtוַיִּלָּחֶםwith Israelעִם יִשְׂרָאֵלat Rephidim.בִּרְפִידִם
Mosesמֹשֶׁהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Joshua,אֶל יְהוֹשֻׁעַ“Chooseבְּחַרmenאֲנָשִׁיםfor us,לָנוּand go out,וְצֵאfightהִלָּחֵםagainst Amalek.בַּעֲמָלֵקTomorrowמָחָרIאָנֹכִיwill standנִצָּבonעַלthe topרֹאשׁof the hillהַגִּבְעָהwith the staffוּמַטֵּהof Elohimהָאֱלֹהִיםin my hand.”בְּיָדִי
JoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַdidוַיַּעַשׂasכַּאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהtoldאָמַרhim,לוֹto fightלְהִלָּחֵםagainst Amalek;בַּעֲמָלֵקand Moses,וּמֹשֶׁהAaron,אַהֲרֹןand Hurוְחוּרwent upעָלוּto the topרֹאשׁof the hill.הַגִּבְעָה
Wheneverוְהָיָה כַּאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהraisedיָרִיםhis hand,יָדוֹIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלprevailed;וְגָבַרand wheneverוְכַאֲשֶׁרhe loweredיָנִיחַhis hand,יָדוֹAmalekעֲמָלֵקprevailed.וְגָבַר
But Moses’וִ מֹשֶׁהhandsידֵיgrew heavy;כְּבֵדִיםso they tookוַיִּקְחוּa stoneאֶבֶןand put itוַיָּשִׂימוּunder him,תַחְתָּיוand he satוַיֵּשֶׁבon it;עָלֶיהָand Aaronוְאַהֲרֹןand Hurוְחוּרheld upתָּמְכוּhis hands,בְיָדָיוoneאֶחָדon one sideמִזֶּהand oneוּ אֶחָדon the other side;מִזֶּהso his handsוַ יָדָיוwereיְהִיsteadyאֱמוּנָהuntilעַדthe settingבֹּאof the sun.הַשָּׁמֶשׁ
And Joshuaוַ יְהוֹשֻׁעַdefeatedיַּחֲלֹשׁAmalekאֶת עֲמָלֵקand his peopleוְאֶת עַמּוֹwith the edgeלְפִיof the sword.חָרֶב
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Writeכְּתֹבthisזֹאתas a memorialזִכָּרוֹןin a book,בַּסֵּפֶרand put itוְשִׂיםin the hearingבְּאָזְנֵיof Joshua:יְהוֹשֻׁעַthatכִּיI will utterlyמָחֹהblot outאֶמְחֶהthe remembranceאֶת זֵכֶרof Amalekעֲמָלֵקfrom underמִתַּחַתheaven.”הַשָּׁמָיִם
Mosesמֹשֶׁהbuiltוַיִּבֶןan altarמִזְבֵּחַand calledוַיִּקְרָאits nameשְׁמוֹYHWH Nissi,יְהוָה נִסִּי
and he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Becauseכִּיa handיָדwas raised againstעַלthe throneכֵּסof Yah,יָהּYHWHיהוָהwill haveלַwarמִלְחָמָהwith Amalekבַּעֲמָלֵקfrom generationמִדֹּרto generation.”דֹּר
